Marriott's Shadow Ridge Golf Club

Palm Desert, California, USACoachella Valley

Marriott's Shadow Ridge Golf Club presents a 27-hole desert golf experience blending approachable design with natural southwestern scenery. Offering three distinct nines, the course welcomes a wide range of players with its fairways, thoughtful greens, and resort amenities that complete the Palm Desert golf visit.

Course Overview

Located in the heart of Palm Desert, California, Marriott's Shadow Ridge Golf Club offers an engaging 27-hole layout that harmonizes desert terrain with thoughtfully maintained fairways and greens. This resort course invites players of various skill levels to navigate a landscape defined by sun-soaked vistas, rugged mesquite trees, and gentle elevation changes. The course is arranged in three distinct nine-hole segments, each presenting its own character and challenges, allowing golfers to mix and match for a fresh experience every round.

Shadow Ridge leverages its natural desert surroundings to create strategic options without overwhelming less experienced players. The wide fairways provide room off the tee, while sand bunkers and water features test precision on approach shots. Greens are known for their subtle undulations that reward careful reading and a smooth putting stroke. This balance makes the course approachable for those still refining their game while maintaining enough depth to engage lower handicaps.

Beyond the holes, the setting captures California's signature blend of arid beauty and meticulously landscaped play zones. The backdrop of distant mountains creates a calm yet invigorating atmosphere, enhanced by the bright blue skies typical of the region.

Amenities complement the golfing experience with a well-appointed clubhouse featuring dining options suitable for relaxed post-round gatherings or casual business meetings. The facility supports both resort guests and local players, offering rental clubs, a pro shop stocked with essentials, and practice areas to warm up before teeing off.

For those planning a visit, walking is possible but the course’s desert conditions and layout often encourage riding carts, especially during midday heat. Playing early morning or late afternoon rounds can provide more comfortable temperatures and stunning natural light.

Marriott's Shadow Ridge Golf Club marries accessibility with desert golf tradition, promising rounds that are straightforward yet evocative of the southwestern landscape. Whether you're a resort guest looking for a memorable outing or a visitor seeking quality golf in Palm Desert, this course delivers a well-rounded experience shaped by thoughtful design and attentive maintenance.

Course Highlights

Three varied nine-hole courses blend desert landscape with strategic bunkering and water hazards. The course layout highlights natural elevation shifts and expansive views toward the San Jacinto Mountains. Greens feature subtle breaks that challenge pace and reading, rewarding thoughtful play throughout.

Checked in yesterday. Facility is nice and well maintained. Big problem with the room - not as advertised and promoted. Requested and granted a golf course view. Our window looks directly at another building. From the patio we see bushes instead of the golf course. If we step off the patio into the yard, we get a small view of the golf course. I called the desk, waited on hold for ten minutes, and they said, “There is nothing we can do.” Not impressed!

More like a hotel than a resort. It used to be for Vacation Club owners, but now it's overrun by people that don't know how to behave, and they don't enforce policies. In one day, there was an assault on a woman, a purse stolen at the pool, people with glass champagne bottles at the pool, and elevators that don't work. At a different pool, there was glass in the pool. They also force you to get out of the pool every two hours to hydrate and take your children to the bathroom. Ice and water machines are temperamental and their pins colada at the bar don't resemble anything like one. All artificial flavor slush. In addition, there is a sign telling people with active diarrhea (up to 14 days before) to stay out of the pool. Obviously, they've had problems before. Never coming back.

Great overnight friend trip. Very friendly staff. Clean and well maintained room. Grounds were gorgeous. Pools were sparkling clear. And you didn't have to wear your mask in the pool area even if you got up unless you were getting food.

We really enjoy this resort. First time playing the course and found it very playable. The area is clean and we were very happy with our room. It is nice to have so many amenities to do at the resort as well. I would return the next time I visit the area.

This course is imminently fun and fair. Really great greens and the fairways were in good shape. Great flow to the golf course and the green complexes are amazing. Do not get in the wrong section of the green! This is a 4.5 star course, but I can't give the extra half. Staff was so friendly. I was glad the course was empty since I was able to play quickly, but it was also sad to see. I will definitely play here again.
