The Golf Club at Terra Lago

Indio, California, USACoachella Valley

The Golf Club at Terra Lago offers a distinctive desert golf experience with two 18-hole courses featuring significant elevation changes, challenging uphill shots, and well-maintained greens. Ideal for players looking to navigate intricate desert terrain and wind-affected conditions in a scenic Coachella Valley setting.

Course Overview

Located in the heart of California’s desert landscape, The Golf Club at Terra Lago offers a distinctive golf experience shaped by its dramatic elevation changes and arid surroundings. This private 36-hole facility features two separate 18-hole courses — the North and South — each presenting a unique challenge with a layout that blends desert terrain with strategic design elements. The South Course, in particular, is celebrated for its intricate routing through sandy mountain peaks, offering elevated tee boxes and multiple uphill holes that demand thoughtful club selection and shot execution.

The courses embrace a desert-style design, where natural rock formations and sparse vegetation create a striking contrast against the bright fairways and vivid greens. Players encounter a variety of holes that test different facets of golf, from demanding drives to precise approaches on greens that reward careful putting. The wind often plays a significant role here, adding a layer of strategy by influencing shot shape and distance control.

Conditions generally reflect the desert environment, with well-maintained greens and bunkers often highlighted by visitors as standout features. While some tee boxes and fairways show signs of the region’s dry climate, the overall playability remains solid for golfers focused on shot-making and course management. The course appeals to a wide variety of skill levels, with challenging options for low handicappers and fair runways for those seeking to enjoy desert golf without feeling overwhelmed.

Beyond the course itself, Terra Lago includes a well-appointed clubhouse that supports members and guests with amenities designed to complement the day on the links. The elevation shifts throughout the round create a rhythm that keeps players engaged, while panoramic views across the desert enhance the sense of place. Whether tackling the South Course’s signature holes or refining your game at their practice facilities, the venue offers a comprehensive golf experience distinct to the Coachella Valley region.

For those planning a visit, it’s advisable to prepare for variable conditions including dry patches typical of desert courses and to build wind into your strategy. Comfortable shoes suited for walking uphill sections improve the enjoyment of the course’s varied terrain. Overall, The Golf Club at Terra Lago invites golfers to test their skills over challenging but rewarding layouts set against an unforgettable desert backdrop.

This is one of my long time favorite courses in the desert. To me it feels like a links style course, nestled out in the middle of the desert wilderness. Even the other well known golf courses this side of the 10 freeway really feel nothing like this truly unique offering. Terra Lago is built up and down sandy mountain peaks across a broad expanse of desert landscape. The course offers a good variety of bombs away tee shots from elevated tee boxes, several challenging uphill holes, greens that beg you to attack the pin but can leave you heartbroken if you’re not careful, and some absolutely gorgeous views. I have played this course for years and have seen the greens in better shape, but I take that with a huge grain of salt considering it’s such a hot dry climate. If you are a serious golfer and want to test your skills for a great price, this is the place.

First time visiting Palm Springs/indigo. Had an opportunity to play at Terra Lago and what a treat. Challenging golf course with lots of up and down. The wind added yet another level of competition. We will definitely come back and play.

Awesome desert golf with 2 great courses to play. Very unique and fun layouts. Conditions were amazing and greens rolled true. Signature holes are beautiful and perfect for selfies or group pics! It's also the "Home of The Skins Game!".. If you can only play one, I would choose the South course.. it's more scenic and challenging. Will definitely be back soon!

One of the nicest courses we played during our stay in Palm Springs! Great layout and immaculate conditions from tee box to green!

Play course on August 24, 2024. From the beginning the staff was very friendly on getting people started on their teetimes. The course has good practice facilities. As for the course itself it does need some work. Some tee boxes are uneven and have a lot of dry spots. The Fairway's have dirt spots in a lot of dry patches. However, the greens and the bunkers are in very good shape despite a few needing extra attention. The course would be one of the best around if they will pay more attention to the fairways and the tee boxes. I was also disappointed that I did not see a cart girl all round on a weekend day. The course has one of the best layouts I have ever seen with a lot of elevation challenges, and it makes you think about your next shot before overpowering the course. Despite the dry fairways and tee boxes I can see myself coming back to this course.

This course was in great shape. Unfortunately it was a very slow round of golf for a Tuesday morning. It was 5 hours for our foresome.
