The Meadows of Six Mile Creek

Waunakee, Wisconsin, USACentral Wisconsin

The Meadows of Six Mile Creek in Waunakee, Wisconsin, offers an 18-hole public course woven with natural water hazards and prairie landscapes. Known for its strategic layout and well-maintained greens, it provides an engaging challenge suited to a wide range of players.

Course Overview

Located in the rolling landscapes of Waunakee, Wisconsin, The Meadows of Six Mile Creek offers an 18-hole public golf experience that challenges and rewards golfers across skill levels. This course winds through a diverse natural setting shaped by plentiful wetlands, prairie grasses, and winding creeks that subtly shape the routing and test strategic shot-making. Each hole is defined by water hazards, native foliage, and shifting winds that influence club selection and shot execution.

Play at The Meadows requires thoughtful navigation through hazards that seem ever-present, requiring careful course management from tee to green. The layout combines length with angles, presenting long par 4s and par 5s that call for accurate drives and well-placed approach shots. Shorter holes provide a contrasting precision test, while the large, well-maintained greens demand attention to speed and break, making putting an equally critical component of scoring.

Despite its challenges, the course remains approachable for most golfers, with multiple tees accommodating different experience levels. The conditioning is generally very good, with fairways and greens holding up well even through Wisconsin’s heavy rains—though the cart paths could benefit from renovation for smoother travel.

Amenities at The Meadows include a clubhouse with a modest pro shop and a cozy bar where players gather after rounds, noted for its friendly staff and a popular spicy Bloody Mary. Water stations are available around the course, while restroom facilities are primarily at the clubhouse, supplemented by portable units on the course for convenience.

Golfers planning a visit should prepare for the demands of water and prairie hazards by bringing sufficient golf balls and comfortable walking shoes, as walking is encouraged given the course terrain. Pace of play can be slower during busy times, especially on weekends, so allowing extra time for a round is advisable.

The Meadows of Six Mile Creek combines natural beauty with strategic challenges, providing a thoroughly enjoyable golf day for public players seeking a course that rewards thoughtful play and resilience.

This is a lovely, challenging course. The entire course is littered with hazards (quite a bit of water & a ton of prairie areas). Prepare ahead of time & bring more balls than you think you’ll need. While we’ve had a ton of rain this season, every single green & tee box was in excellent condition. All fairways in great shape, too. The cart path was quite rough and pretty much the entire thing is due for a total replacement. Plenty of portable toilets stationed along the course, but no “real” bathrooms apart from the clubhouse. Also quite a few water stations with disposable cups available for golfers. Pace of play was slower than I’d like - 5 hours for 18 - but not uncommon for a busy Sunday tee time. I paid $75.96 for 18 with a cart on a Sunday morning. The pro shop attendant (or golf pro?), a middle aged man, was such a gem. Lighthearted & funny. He was a delight. Overall I’d recommend this course and look forward to playing here again.

Decently maintained, but for the money, I would have expected better tee boxes, real sand, beautification and no invasive weeds in fairways. Nonetheless, we had a great time with the gentlemen we were paired with!

Decent course, but not worth the full price to play there. With Bucky Book 2 for 1 it is well worth it.

Convenient and well kept. Holes are laid out a little wonky but the people there (working and playing) make it a great experience. No driving range is tough and the restaurant has limited options. But always enjoy a day on this course.

Nice course, a few long holes, a couple short holes, overall a solid course. Greens and fairways were in great condition given our crazy rain and flooding earlier in the year. Nice bar and a good spicy bloody mary.

For everyone: Fairways and greens are ok. No cart service. Don't expect much and your expectations will be met. Don't hesitate to tell the ranger to mind his business and leave you alone. For course staff: Felt rushed all-day by a couple course staff. It started before we checked in and paid. While my credit card was still in my wallet the check-in clerk was already telling us we're late, its time to tee off. I checked my phone and replied our tee time is in 12 minutes. While thinking to myself...maybe check in guy doesn't want to be here now...he again insisted we were late. We tee'd off 5 minutes before our scheduled time. On #2 one of the golf carts stopped working. The course ranger came near, we told him 3 times there was a non-working cart before he believed us, a few minutes later that got resolved. After the cart switch the ranger checked on us 9 more times (7x front-9, 3x back-9) and that didn't end until after he followed us from the 17 tee box to watch all but our last 2 strokes of the day. We finished 18 holes in 3 hours 42 minutes and were back home in 4 hours 5 minutes wondering if we'll ever go back to Six Mile. On #14 (check-in #9, at 2 hours 50 minutes) course ranger dick tells us to pick up the pace, there are two open holes ahead of us with no one. My response, "we're well ahead of pace" which is code-speak for STOP FOLLOWING US, LEAVE US ALONE, AND GO AWAY BUDDY! When we step on the #17 tee box we had to wait for golfers in the fairway. For the owners: train or get rid of the no-and-low-performing staff. You're gonna need to find some cost savings to buy grass seed and tune up golf carts before this season is done. Most of what happened and is written above was reported to a different pro shop staff at around the 3 hours 50 minutes mark for our scheduled time. After finishing 17 we figured out why there was no cart service. The service cart was parked, doing nothing, selling nothing, and going nowhere at the intersection of holes 2, 6, 10, 11, and 17 while the girl working it was face down in her phone.
