Bear Mountain Ranch Golf Course Review

Chelan, Washington, USACentral Washington

Bear Mountain Ranch challenges golfers with its rugged mountain layout and sweeping views of Lake Chelan. This 18-hole public course combines elevation changes, strategic greens, and stunning landscapes for an engaging round that tests both skill and stamina.

Course Overview

Bear Mountain Ranch offers an invigorating mountain golf experience defined by its striking views and demanding terrain. This 18-hole public course, located in Chelan, Washington, stretches across rugged hills overlooking Lake Chelan, presenting players with shifting elevations and moments of breath-stealing scenery. The layout challenges golfers to balance power and precision, as tight fairways, well-placed bunkers, and subtly contoured greens test strategy from the first tee through the eighteenth.

Designed to maximize the natural landscape, the course’s setting blends rocky outcrops with pine trees and open vistas, creating a dynamic backdrop for every shot. Players will find some holes demanding patience and careful club selection, while others reward bold strokes down the mountain. The course is best enjoyed by those who appreciate a challenging round accompanied by panoramic views rather than purely score-oriented golf.

Carts are mandatory due to the significant elevation changes, which adds comfort as you navigate holes routed over the hillsides. Walking is not advised but the cart path design provides smooth transitions between holes. The course conditions generally receive strong praise, though visitors should be prepared for occasional dry spots depending on irrigation and seasonal factors.

Bear Mountain Ranch’s clubhouse is compact yet welcoming, with a pro shop staffed by friendly personnel and a modest café offering light fare. While food options are limited, the overall relaxed atmosphere makes it an ideal spot to unwind after a round and share stories from the challenge encountered on the course.

Wildlife sightings, including roaming deer, add to the outdoor ambiance, reinforcing the sense of playing in a wild and untamed environment. Golfers aiming for scenic variety combined with thoughtful craftsmanship will find Bear Mountain Ranch paired well with a day of sightseeing around Lake Chelan.

Planning a visit? Mornings and late afternoons are prime times when light enhances the course’s textures and cooler temperatures make hiking up holes easier if you choose to walk with a cart following. Bring layers and gear suited for changing mountain weather conditions. Bear Mountain Ranch rewards those who engage fully with its physical and visual demands, crafting a memorable round within Washington state’s mountain golf landscape.

First, it starts with a great welcome at Pro Shop. Then the fun begins. As much as we love to walk a golf course, carts are mandatory at Bear Mountain. They have done an incredible job of designing the course over challenging terrain. Some of the holes just need a little patience, the architect did the best with what he had. The rest of the holes are fantastic and fun! The views of the Lake and the valley are worth the rate just on their own!

We had so much fun. Everyone I talked to either on the phone or in person were super friendly. I had a couple of friends back out, so I brought my 7 yr old grandson. Everyone LOVED the idea he was going to ride with me. The couple we played with (Gary & Catherine) we're just a joy to play with and we're so encouraging toward my grandson for the few times he swung a club. It was just a great day of golf and I can't wait to play in the. Ladies tournament next week.

Absolutely stunning course, every hole is a picture worthy view of the lake. Course was in great condition, golf carts great quality. The pro shop and cafe are a bit on the small side but still nice. Would definitely recommend to others

I really enjoy Bear Mountain and highly recommended playing it. A great mountain course with some beautiful vistas and challenging holes. Only four stars on this visit, they were having some irrigation issues which made for some dried out areas. I also would have liked some quick grab food at the turn. 11:30 and all you have are some old breakfast sandwiches? I’m sure I could have broke 80 if I wasn’t starving on the back nine lol pay no attention to the fact that I have yet to break 90

This is one of the most challenging courses in Washington state because of the ingenious set up of the greens; it's nearly impossible to get your bearings straight, one moment you think it's going to break right, the next moment it actually breaks left. All I can say is good luck on the greens, grip it and rip it. The clubhouse/parking experience is flawless. The conditions of the course (last July) was perfect. There were multiple herds of deer roaming the holes - and I'm happy to report that not a single bear was sighted.
