Course Overview
Ocean View Golf Course, situated in Norfolk, Virginia, offers a straightforward yet satisfying golf experience tailored to players seeking an accessible public layout. The 18-hole course stretches over a modest total yardage, designed with a par that encourages playability for golfers at a broad range of skill levels. Unlike meticulously manicured championship venues, Ocean View focuses on providing a casual, welcoming environment where golfers can enjoy a full round without intimidation.
The layout follows a predominantly parkland style, marked by open fairways bordered by natural grasses and a scattering of mature trees. The terrain is relatively flat, allowing players to concentrate on shot execution rather than navigating tricky elevation changes. Ocean View’s design places an emphasis on pace and flow, making it an inviting option for those looking to sharpen their game or squeeze in a quick round.
Landscaping is functional rather than ornamental. Bunkers and water hazards are present but not overly penal, maintaining a balance that keeps the course approachable for novices while still offering elements that require thoughtful strategy. The absence of a driving range at the facility signals a focus on on-course play, encouraging golfers to warm up via short-game areas available near the clubhouse.
The clubhouse is modest yet serves as a practical hub, accommodating golfers with basic amenities and providing a friendly staff known for their helpfulness. Golf carts equipped with GPS technology add a layer of convenience, helping visitors measure distances efficiently across the course. Walking is allowed and manageable due to the course’s relatively compact layout, though comfortable shoes are recommended.
Ocean View functions as a public facility with an inviting atmosphere that places the game within reach of anyone eager to spend time outdoors on well-maintained grounds, even if it lacks some of the refinement of private clubs or resort complexes. Those seeking a no-frills, friendly golfing outing in Norfolk will find Ocean View a solid choice without the pressures or high costs often associated with more exclusive venues.

The course is really shaping up at the beginning of the golf season for 2019. There is a lot of grass on them soon as I start cutting down a little bit they will be really nice.

First time going to this course, booked on Golf Now app, showed up about an hour early like I usually do to warm up on range and practice greens. As soon as I get to the shop and check in I ask for range balls and the guy simply says there is no range in a tone as though it's common knowledge. The app and the site is not obvious about the course not having a range and what golf course does not at least have an irons only range. I felt the elderly gentlemen was rude and dismissive and so I simply canceled my tee time booked at a tee time at Cypress Point for $10 more, which also shows how the price for a short course with no range is not really reasonable when I was able to book at a semi-private club for only $10 more.

Well maintained with a friendly staff. Carts have GPS ranging to the hole which is a huge help. Highly recommend this golf course.

Course isn’t in its top shape but they’re very clearly working to be primo next year. People are great as well, will 100% return when I’m back in town.

It's not that bad at all. It's not a Country Club. It's a public, so very fair for the price. Folks were nice, too.

06/13/25 The Friday 5:30pm mixer is so fun. I go by myself and just get on a team and have a blast for 9 holes. For 20 bucks, it's a good time. Played three times and always paired up with solid dudes. Great time on a Friday night. 05/22/25 They are running a 9 hole best ball at 5:30 on Fridays for 20 bucks per person. Played last week it was a blast. If you have a girl that can pipe drives bring her. 10/10/24 Stopped by yesterday to play 9. 26 with cart. They got new carts with GPS and you can take your score with it. Gives you yardage also. It's a nice upgrade. Fun coarse to play. Great fun for the money. The food here is so great and cheap. The course will be really nice in a month.
