Course Overview
Colonial Hills Golf Club offers an engaging 18-hole layout that balances playability with subtle challenges across its gently rolling landscape in Forest, Virginia. Designed for a broad spectrum of golfers, this public course presents fairways generous enough for novices while still rewarding thoughtful strategy and shot-making for more experienced players. The course winds through mature trees and carefully maintained greens, creating a setting that feels both inviting and focused on the game without demands that overwhelm casual or intermediate players.
Fairways at Colonial Hills are generally forgiving, featuring contours and occasional bunkers that require tactical consideration rather than penalizing errors harshly. Greens are consistently well-kept, delivering smooth surfaces that encourage confident putting. While some tee boxes show signs of wear, the overall conditioning throughout the season remains impressive, aided by attentive maintenance staff. Golf carts with GPS units are available, enhancing navigation and providing useful distance information, which is particularly helpful given that directional signage on the course tends to be minimal.
The club’s facility includes a pro shop stocked with a variety of golf gear and apparel, catering to players wishing to gear up or refresh their equipment before or after their rounds. Friendly and knowledgeable staff add to the welcoming atmosphere, supporting both new arrivals and regulars alike. The layout invites walking, and players who choose to do so are advised to bring comfortable footwear due to its undulating terrain and some hilly sections that test stamina alongside skill.
Colonial Hills shines in offering variety across its holes, with a mix of lengths and angles that keep golfers engaged from the first tee to the 18th green. Though the lack of clear on-course signage can lead to occasional confusion, the experience remains positive overall. For those seeking an accessible course with solid conditioning, reasonable rates, and a relaxed atmosphere in Central Virginia, Colonial Hills Golf Club is a rewarding choice, combining value and quality within a straightforward but enjoyable setting.

Very impressed!!! It was my first time playing the course and my experience was very good. Great rates for 18 holes with a cart, and speaking of the cart they have very nice brand new carts with screens showing gps and distances (which I didn’t get to try because they were fresh to the course)! The staff was super helpful and friendly. The pro shop was stocked full of amazing gear and even carrying some Good Good apparel which I thought was neat. Out on the course that greens were very well kept and not to mention the beautiful scenic views everywhere! The course has great holes really keeping the course fresh and enjoyable! Yes the lack of signage did throw me off but I wonder if the new cart gps will help with that. Overall very enjoyable and I will be back!

All around enjoyable course. Forgiving fairways, and a nice variety of challenging holes. However, the tee boxers and cart paths both need work. Like others, I also found the hole signage terrible, which is basically nonexistent. I got turned around several times and had to ask other golfers for directions. Unfortunately I won’t play here again unless that is fixed. I’ve played for a long time on courses all over the country, and I’ve never seen a course with no signage for the direction of the holes or the distance information, etc.

So solid. Staff is all friendly, fees are super affordable, and the course gives nice variety. I've seen the course come in nicely from March to now. Fairways are A, greens A+, tee boxes B-, all of that shapes up for a great time on the course. My ONLY gripe, not enough directional signage... My first time on course I accidentally made a 700 yd par 5 by teeing off on 7 tee box, to 16 fairway/green, when I was going for hole 2 lol.
