Slick Rock Golf Course

Horseshoe Bay, Texas, USACentral Texas

Slick Rock Golf Course in Horseshoe Bay, Texas, offers a public 18-hole experience highlighted by open yet strategic fairways, rolling terrain, and a stunning waterfall hole. Its approachable design combined with smooth, complex greens makes it a rewarding challenge for a wide range of golfers.

Course Overview

Slick Rock Golf Course offers an 18-hole public layout that gracefully combines open fairways with strategic elevation changes, providing an engaging round for golfers of varied skill levels. Located at 1306 Hi Stirrup in Horseshoe Bay, Texas, this course balances accessibility with challenge, unfolding across terrain that shifts from gently rolling front nine holes that weave through residential areas to a more rugged and elevated back nine that culminates in one of Central Texas’s most talked-about features - a spectacular waterfall framing the 14th hole.

The course's design encourages thoughtful shot-making without overwhelming the player. While the fairways are generally generous, bunkers act as watchful guards around many greens, demanding precision on approach shots. The greens themselves are known for their smooth yet complex contours, testing putting skills in subtle ways that reward patience and tempo control. This layout will appeal to both casual golfers looking for a scenic day outdoors and more experienced players seeking a fair test of their game.

Slick Rock’s clubhouse complements the golfing experience with welcoming amenities. Its pro shop is well-stocked and staffed by knowledgeable professionals eager to assist, while the adjacent Slick Rock Grill offers a casual dining atmosphere with standout offerings such as their famous Slick Rock Burger — a favorite among visitors and members alike. This combination of quality course and service fosters a relaxed environment where players can unwind after their rounds.

Players planning a visit should prepare for walking as the course is best experienced on foot to fully appreciate its changes in elevation and natural features. Good footwear is recommended, especially during warmer months when the pace of play can be brisk and temperatures rise. Although the course is publicly accessible, advanced tee time reservations are advisable, especially on weekends and holidays.

In all, Slick Rock Golf Course delivers a compelling blend of Texan landscape and golf course amenities, striking a balance between challenge and enjoyment that keeps players returning year after year.

Amazing experience Dec 30th. Great check in, pro shop, and starter. Nice warm up area before we got started. No one in front or behind the whole round. Perfect course conditions. Greens are very complex. Putting killed my round. Wonder round at Slick Rock. How about that million dollar hole?!?! Beautiful place. Thank you! Highly recommend.

Beautiful conditions! Firm and fast greens and fairways both days we played Slick Rock. The course is fairly open with a number of different types of holes on the front and back 9. The front 9 winds through more housing, while the back 9 climbs a bit culminating in the waterfall, million dollar hole on 14. Don't sleep on 18 either. Everyone from the starters (one feom the OK panhandle) to the range director, to the assistant pro to the head pro, Jacob Luttrell were friendly and welcoming. After a tough round on the narrow Apple Rock in the wind, we did not want to play our last round there as well. The reservations team and Head Pro were able to fit us in on Friday. Scored well both days and loved the clubhouse. The locker rooms are well appointed and much like your typical club. Shoutout to the golf staff!

I write this review mainly for the Slick Rock Grill restaurant. It's a casual yet well-kept cafe that has one of the best burgers. The decor is non-existent, but is more ergonomic for dining rather than decorative. The service might have a slight wait, but it's worth every minute. They are known for their Slick Rock Burger; a delicious item that pleases golfers, tourists, etc. It has a nice presentation that seems timeless, and could be seen now or 60 years before. I ordered the Slick Rock Burger, and it tasted delicious and filling. The burger came with a side of fries that were well- seasoned, and a kosher pickle. I give Slick Rock a 3.5 because it makes up it's quality with it's cusine.

Course is pretty. Starter is RUDE. 7:47 he rolls by saying “I’ll be here at 8!” in an awful tone as if we asked him for something. No hello, good morning… nothing. Nice way to start our day.

Excellent course to play. Superb conditions and top notch service by all staff. Friendly and eager to help without being pushy. Course is gorgeous, and cannot stress the quality of the course. Not a tough layout, but be prepared for smooth rolling greens. Lots of bunkers but nothing tricky about any of the layout. A must play for any golf fan.
