Juniper Preserve

Bend, Oregon, USACentral Oregon

Juniper Preserve presents an 18-hole championship layout by Jack Nicklaus, set within Central Oregon’s dramatic high desert. Known for its mountain-style design, wide fairways, and desert features, the course delivers a strategic and engaging round for golfers across skill levels.

Course Overview

Juniper Preserve offers a distinctive golf experience set against the striking backdrop of Central Oregon’s high desert. This 18-hole championship course, designed by Jack Nicklaus, sits far from the bustle of city life, welcoming players to a rugged landscape where rugged terrain meets refined design. The course stretches over approximately 7,200 yards with a par of 72, blending wide fairways with strategically placed hazards that call for both precision and creativity. Expect to encounter broad expanses of native grasses, distinct ghost trees, and dramatic elevation changes that deliver natural challenges and breathtaking views at every turn.

The layout leans toward mountain-style golf, demanding thoughtful club selection and shot shaping as holes weave through the desert’s wild contours. Bunkers guard the greens with intent, and water features are rare but deliberate, adding strategic depth where they appear. Wind often plays a role in the round, offering a quiet test of rhythm and patience that keeps the experienced golfer engaged without overwhelming those still honing their game.

Juniper Preserve is a members-only club focused on delivering a luxury experience beyond the fairways. The clubhouse provides an elegant setting with modern amenities, including attentive dining spaces and a well-stocked pro shop. Walking the course is highly encouraged; the terrain is varied but manageable with good footwear, and the quiet pace allows players to absorb the serene environment. Golf carts are available but many prefer the immersive feel of the course on foot.

This course appeals to a range of golfers from low handicaps seeking a challenging round to intermediate players appreciating wide fairways and clear sightlines. The preserved desert landscape is more than a backdrop; it informs strategy and invites a thoughtful approach. Whether testing long drives or finesse shots around greens sculpted within the natural environment, each hole rewards those willing to engage with the course’s distinct personality.

Visitors will find Juniper Preserve a destination that balances rugged beauty with refined golf craftsmanship, making it a compelling choice for enthusiasts eager to experience one of Oregon's standout venues.

Course Highlights

Designed by Jack Nicklaus, Juniper Preserve showcases stark desert landscapes interspersed with ghost trees and native vegetation. The course demands strategic golf with well-placed bunkers and natural terrain forming challenging yet accessible fairways. Its mountain-style routing and selective water features create a dynamic round under Oregon’s wide skies.

The resort is secluded and gated. Upon arrival, the greeting was short and straight to the point with the rules. The room is modern and bigger than most double bed rooms. Most amenities and activities are geared towards adults.

Came here for a wedding, stayed here for the golf. I want to say thank you to Jack Nicholas for a challenging yet exceptional and fun course. The things this preserve offers are truly amazing, from sports to a luxury spa. During this stay I crushed my entire family at pickleball, so thank you for letting me have that. This preserve is in a wild location from an oasis in the middle of the desert. The ghost trees were also pretty cool to see on the course to make for a beautiful landscape. The staff were very helpful to me for me and my picky family. They attended our every need. I do not know how much the staff get payed here, but they should get millions. The wedding spot included an island on the fazio golf course. There were two swans named Swan Travolta and Olivia Newton Swan 🤣. You could go here just to see the swans. I highly recommend this place to anyone that wants a good time or just to chill.

We stopped by to look at Juniper Preserve for a future family event. We were met by Josef at the front desk. He was AMAZING! He was friendly, knowledgeable, and a great representative for the hotel. He showed us several gorgeous room options, explained the amenities that would be available, and provided us with contacts for future planning. We also met David, who was kind enough to show us the meeting rooms and talk with us about dining at the facility. This hotel and the grounds are beautiful; clean and well kept. Looking forward to our future stay!

I didn't stay the night, I worked a wedding out there and as my first experience at Juniper Reserve, I'd say it did not disappoint!!! The staff is warm and accommodating, the views are secluded and lovely, and the vibe of the buildings take me back to Italy! The food was on point and the staff that worked the catering scene were on top of it!!! 🤌🏼 the chefs were on point. I'd love to stay there in the future, until then just working a wedding and seeing everything in the scenery was magical and I would recommend this place if you have the spending😉 Rachel | Owner Dashoots Photobooth | Central Oregon

Spent two nights here on vacation. Pros: the grounds and interiors of the public spaces were gorgeous and quiet. Cons: Our room was very small, with no microwave, but to upgrade to the “Club” level was nearly double the price. We stopped in the Iris restaurant for dinner and had drinks in the bar beforehand. The service for dinner was dismal, extremely slow, inattentive when we were only 1 table of 3 in the whole place. When our food did come, one dish was truly awful, the truffle ravioli dish arrived as 4 pieces, that’s it. The filling was dry and completely tasteless and the oil they were swimming in, did nothing but make the pasta gummy, yeah, that appetizer plate cost $22. Ridiculously overpriced. Our entire food order was overpriced and the only piece with flavor and cooked properly was the maple glazed carrots we ordered as a side. No one checked back with us about the food, we had to ask for our bill. We did however have a great service experience with the bartender who mixed very tasty cocktails for us. He is the only reason we are rating the overall service here two stars. Our bill was itemized incorrectly compared to what we signed in with. The manager did call us back with an apology for the misunderstanding, however, which I appreciated. Would we stay here again? No, the place is located far from other food options, so you are stuck with the overpriced, very average food and bad service from the restaurant. I would not recommend this place overall.

Fantastic views of the sunsets and the moon. The staff could not have been nicer and more friendly and helpful. Love the outside gas fire pit.
