Rocky Lakes Golf Course

Springfield, Ohio, USACentral Ohio

Rocky Lakes Golf Course is a public 18-hole layout in Springfield, Ohio, known for its flat terrain punctuated by water hazards and an open, approachable style. It offers a practical and affordable play option, although course conditions demand accuracy and patience.

Course Overview

Rocky Lakes Golf Course offers an 18-hole public layout located on the outskirts of Springfield, Ohio. The course presents a predominantly flat terrain that emphasizes straightforward play with subtle challenges shaped by natural water features and evolving conditions. Its open fairways are occasionally interrupted by ponds strategically placed beside tees and along select holes, inviting careful shot placement and course management. Players will find the setting rural and unpretentious, offering a laid-back environment for golfers of varying skill levels seeking an affordable, approachable round.

The course plays as a par 72 with moderate total yardage, making it suitable for beginners to intermediate players. While the flat nature of the landscape allows for an easier walk, uneven maintenance levels have impacted playability over time. Fairways can be thick in places, and roughs are known to grow tall and dense, making ball recovery challenging once off the fairway. This feature requires golfers to maintain accuracy from the tee to avoid extended searches and difficult lies. The greens tend to roll true when maintained but occasionally display inconsistency, particularly after adverse weather.

Amenities at Rocky Lakes include a clubhouse with standard facilities and a practice area, supporting a casual and community-focused atmosphere. Golfers planning a visit should prepare for walking, as golf carts are limited, and durable shoes are recommended given occasional wet conditions, especially after rainfall.

While the course’s natural ponds provide visual interest and strategic variety, players should be ready to navigate the uneven rough and shifting course conditions. The landscape’s simplicity lends itself to a straightforward pace of play, enabling a smooth round for casual golfers aiming to improve. Rocky Lakes offers an accessible golfing option for local players seeking value and ease, with enough character to hold attention despite maintenance challenges. Those willing to focus on precision and patience will find a course that delivers a practical golf experience outside the trappings of more manicured or tournament-level courses.

Course Highlights

The course’s flat layout is marked by strategically placed ponds near tee boxes and alongside several fairways, creating hazards that test course management without overwhelming the player. While maintenance varies, the open fairways allow for an unhurried rhythm of play. Its simple routing and natural setting provide a relaxed atmosphere distinct from more manicured layouts.

I would give this course a zero stars if I could. I have been to many courses all over the country and this by far is the worst course I’ve ever seen. No maintenance has been done so many weeds in the fairways I’ve never seen fairways have a grass length of over 6 inches. Even if you manage to hit the fairway good luck finding your ball for your next shot. Apparently the mowers blades are so dull they laid the grass over instead of cutting it. I would pay double what this course charges to have a decent golfing experience. I’ve been to this course over the years many times and had a good experience until just recently. Golfers go pay extra to golf a half way decent course.

Got told by two workers that we could come out and play at the last teatime until sundown. then when we get the hole 13 on the back of the course, the worker comes out and ask us to leave and we ask why, and he said that he was in the wrong for letting us play. Course is awful fairways are terrible. Would not recommend this course to anybody.

I looked at a lot of bad reviews before playing today. I thought it was a really nice layout. Only bad thing was all the ponding from 2 inches of rain overnight. That said, greens rolled really true and smooth. I really enjoyed this course.

Paid for 18 but only played 9 holes at Rocky Lakes golf course today. Greens were OK but the rough is too rough, too tall and WAY too many weeds. Had trouble finding the balls. Went to Bogey’s afterwards, and the beer was cold and food was great.

First time playing this course. Played 9 holes. Being a beginner golfer, the first hole was a challenge - a pond right by the tee. Needless to say, lost a ball. There are other ponds along the course. Mostly a flat course.

Not even worthy of one star. I've only been playing couple months put I've played most courses within a hour of me. This is by fair worst course I've ever been too. I'm not good but I'm not terrible every single ball I hit into the rough I lost over then 2 or 3. The grass is tall and has so many weeds if u don't hit fairway don't even bother trying. Even made some good shots few on fairway still can't see it endless ur 2 feet from the ball. I will never come back here took me a minute to find the last hole hit my shot and it was just right of fairway in the rough I just left. I knew that ball was lost even only being 10ft of the fairway. Will never come back. If ur looking for a course with similar price try greywolf, homestead, Jamaica run, cassel hills, reid park. All those course are same price or cheaper and there all nice courses unlike this one

If it were not for the fact that the greens were in decent shape, it would only be 1 star. The blue tee boxes and fairways were overgrown with crabgrass. It has potential but needs some attention.

Not a good course at all. No par 5s on the front nine and is in rough shape. Staff was rude and very overpriced for such a bad course. Worst course in the area. Would definitely not recommend.
