Raymond Memorial Golf Course

Columbus, Ohio, USACentral Ohio

Raymond Memorial Golf Course in Columbus is a public 18-hole layout designed for players seeking a straightforward but strategic city course experience. Its wide fairways and subtle green contours reward accuracy and patience, making it a practical choice for all skill levels.

Course Overview

Raymond Memorial Golf Course offers an approachable yet quietly testing 18-hole layout for golfers seeking a city course experience within Columbus, Ohio. This public track is known for its well-maintained fairways and straightforward routing, making it a popular choice for players from beginners honing their skills to mid-handicappers aiming to refine their game in a friendly urban setting.

Set on relatively flat terrain, the course presents wide fairways that encourage accuracy over power, with holes arranged in a manner that demands careful club selection rather than brute force. While the layout may lack dramatic elevation changes, it compensates with thoughtful positioning of hazards and subtle green undulations that invite strategic putting. Conditioning varies, with consistently neat tee boxes and fairways. The greens roll true but are frequently described as slower than many golfers prefer, rewarding patience and precision on approach shots.

Golfers will find the course’s atmosphere casual and inviting. It serves city dwellers and visitors alike, offering an affordable venue where pace of play can be a concern during busy periods, so early weekday rounds or less crowded times are best for a smooth experience. The driving range here caters primarily to iron practice, ideal for those working on accuracy over distance.

Amenities include a modest clubhouse facility serving players with essentials and golf shop services. Walking is allowed and comfortable given the compact layout, though soft-soled shoes are recommended to maintain footing on the fairways and tees.

Though not a championship venue, Raymond Memorial stands out as a reliable municipal option that balances accessibility with enough challenge to keep rounds engaging. Its no-frills presentation stripped of excessive hazards creates an honest test, where good shot-making and course management determine scores. When planning a trip to Columbus, this course provides a convenient spot to enjoy golf without straying far from the city, especially suited for those who prioritize practice and steady improvement in a straightforward environment.

Course Highlights

Raymond Memorial is recognized for its city course accessibility combined with a layout that promotes shot shaping over power. The course’s flat terrain and direct routing make it easy to navigate, while greens present subtle breaks that test putting skill. It is appreciated for maintaining fairways and tee boxes in good shape despite urban location, and its driving range focuses on precise iron play rather than driver practice.

Always extremely crowded and doesn't enforce pace of play at all. I've played here 10+ times and I've never played a round in under 5 hours. The few times I've gotten lucky and played the front with minimal waiting, the course ended up squeezing new foursomes between groups off the back nine which causes a complete log jam. This has happened multiple times. The price is absurd considering the condition of the course and how boring the layout is. Most holes are flat and dead straight with parallel holes running next to them. The greens always have dozens of unfixed pitch marks. The only reason they can charge the prices they do is their location and lack of public courses inside of 270. They even charge full price when the greens aren't even playable (see photo of a literal lake on one of the greens.) It would have been nice to be told the course was in this condition when I was in the pro shop. The range they have is irons only and nothing like hitting off a fairway. If you are looking for a public course around Columbus that has better conditions and is much better value, I'd recommend The Ridge, Darby Creek, Mentel Memorial, or Champions over Raymond Memorial. Update 8/2023: Course is still terribly managed. Played on a Saturday afternoon and the round took 6 hours.

Always a fun test. Youre able to go get it but also have some trouble along the way. Great city course!

I used a driving range. there is no point in watching a game play. It's better to practicing one more swing. There is no chance to swing for driver. However it's enough to play irons. I believe it, It's just for the sake of it. ⛳️ 🏌️‍♂️ ⛳️ 🏌️‍♀️ ⛳️

I haven’t played the course but the driving range is awful. I think I’m worse at golf from hitting balls there.

They are doing an outstanding job. Municipal courses have some bad reputations, but this is not one of them. A great value for a course that is in remarkably good shape. The amount of play it gets. a unique Robert Trent Jones design with extra par threes that were designed to help speed up play.

Beautiful fairways. The greens are huge and very challenging. Can't beat it for the price.

Played 18 with two work buddies today. Fairways and tee boxes are tip top shape. As of today, the fairways are almost too good. Ball is sitting up beautifully, and doesn’t feel like a tight lie at all. Greens are too slow for my game, but are in good shape and roll well. This was my first time out this year and was stoked to shoot 92 from the whites. It’s a city course… but you can tell they care about keeping the course playable.
