Champions Golf Course

Columbus, Ohio, USACentral Ohio

Champions Golf Course in Columbus offers an accessible yet strategic 18-hole public layout marked by rolling hills and narrow fairways. With mature trees lining doglegs and bunkers protecting greens, it rewards precise play amid a gently undulating landscape.

Course Overview

Located on Westerville Road in Columbus, Champions Golf Course stands as a thoughtfully designed 18-hole public challenge that balances accessibility with strategic demands. The layout features rolling terrain marked by gentle elevation changes that invite players to carefully consider club selection and shot placement throughout. Fairways tend to be narrow, bordered by mature trees that edge most holes, rewarding precise drives and punishing wayward shots. Bunkers guard many of the well-maintained greens, adding an element of hazard that elevates the strategic depth without overwhelming the player.

The course’s character emerges from its rolling hills and dogleg configurations, which invite golfers to engage a thoughtful pace rather than rely on sheer power off the tee. A handful of holes present subtle but effective challenges, including a par 3 elevated on a hillside overlooking a valley, where wind shifts can test even steady tempos, and a par 4 that stretches just shy of par 5 length, inviting risk-reward choices.

Though water features are limited, sandy bunkers and tree-lined corridors frame the experience, offering a setting that favors shot-shaping and course management. Greens are generally well-conditioned, though occasional repairs take place during the season, reflecting ongoing care and investment in the facility’s quality.

Champions Golf Course supports its players with a range of amenities including a driving range, a chipping and putting green, and a recently updated clubhouse featuring a patio and a modest bar area. The clubhouse offers a comfortable environment to unwind after rounds with views onto the course itself. Golf carts are available and recommended for much of the layout given the rolling nature of the course, while walking remains an option for those seeking light exercise.

This course presents a thoroughly enjoyable experience primarily for mid- to high-handicap players looking to sharpen accuracy and course strategy. Its competitive rates and welcoming atmosphere make it a practical choice for locals and visitors exploring Columbus’ public golf scene. Players should plan for variable pace-of-play, particularly during peak times, and may find the thoughtfully maintained practice facilities a perfect complement to a round at Champions.

I went for a wedding reception. It is has great space. The setting had 15 tables at least & seven people to a table. It had dance floor, men and women, restroom, and water fountain. It had a back kitchen area. If you look at my pictures, you can see the facility. You could look out the windows at the golf course. There is outdoor seating.👰🏽‍♀️🤵🏽‍♂️💒💍🥗🍗🍝🧁🎂🍭🍫🍍🍉🧀🍞🥖🍴🍠🧂

Not that long of a course but fairways are narrow. Play smart golf, dint try to bomb every drive. When it rains..the course stays wet for awhile, mostly a golf cart course, unless u are doing 9 and want a workout. Fun and challenging course

Champions review Rating 3.4/5 Value- 4 $50 for 18 holes on a Friday morning/afternoon. Experience- 3 Pace was slow for a Friday morning/afternoon. We had a group go around us and the 3some that was playing in front of us because they were playing so slow. Condition-3 grounds under repair on two holes. Some of the tee boxes were in need of some work. Greens were well maintained but not perfect. Some bunkers had small rocks in them. Facilities/Amenities-4 Practice range, chipping/ putting green Newer clubhouse with an outdoor patio And a small bar, minimal food and snacks. Older carts Challenge of course-3 Overall Play-Tough course There were 2 holes that I felt were unnecessarily difficult with the design. A par 3 that set upon a hill with a valley below and trees surrounding it. A 4 that could’ve easily been a par 5. Majority of the holes were doglegs so you really don’t need to play driver off tee. Challenge came from hazards mainly all the trees. In depth review This course is one six public courses in Columbus. As someone from Northeast Ohio, Summit county specifically, I’ve realized just how spoiled we are with quality public courses. However, I will say, Champions gives some of the best courses in our area a run for their money. This course offers some significantly challenging holes while complementing the difficulty with some truly stunning views. While this course didn’t have much water there were a fair amount of trees and sand bunkers. Most of the courses played on downhill slopes. There were also several doglegs that presented opportunities to go off the tee with clubs other than driver. On course play alone I would recommend champions but they also come equipped with a newly renovated clubhouse, patio, driving range, and chipping and putting green. The clubhouse staff were cordial but not overlay friendly. Thea starter gave great tips and explanations for the cart path rules. Recommendations to the course staff: The only issue I had with the course was that they had 2 holes with grounds under repair that took up about 30 yards of the fairway. But they did provide signs that let you know how far to get to that area and how far to clear. My issue was that they just hosted the USGA Junior tournament and that had to be an issue for those players. Also, I don’t think that any course should be charging the full amount while there’s major repairs going on. If I don’t get the full experience then there should be some sort of discount. That’s just my humble opinion. This is more common practice at courses in northeast Ohio. Overall: I would go back to see the course fully repaired and hope there isn’t a ton wind.

Just a rider and an amateur photographer!! My husband and his foursome enjoyed a beautiful day here on 09/17/22. The course is beautiful, well taken care of, and the staff was friendly. Nice rolling hills and elevation changes. The cart paths are in nice shape and fairly shaded. Perfect shaped trees everywhere. Pleasant other players in any passing situation.
