Wilshire Golf Club

Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USACentral North Carolina

Wilshire Golf Club in Winston-Salem offers an approachable 18-hole course with a straightforward parkland layout. While recent maintenance issues present challenges, the course remains a budget-friendly choice for golfers seeking an accessible and community-centered golfing experience.

Course Overview

Wilshire Golf Club in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, presents an 18-hole layout that blends affordability with a straightforward golfing experience. Positioned along Bridgton Road, the course offers a blend of parkland and transitional terrain, with flat to gently rolling fairways framed by mature trees and occasional wetlands. The design encourages a steady pace of play, making it approachable for beginners and intermediate golfers seeking to hone their skills. However, recent rounds have revealed maintenance challenges, affecting the course's conditioning and overall presentation. Fairways sometimes endure brown patches and uneven turf, while certain cart paths show wear, impacting navigation.

The route itself is a mix of par 3s, 4s, and 5s designed to reward accuracy over length. Though the course does not feature dramatic elevation changes or complex architectural elements, it encourages solid shot-making and strategic club selection, particularly around the greens where bunkers stand ready to contest poorly judged approaches. Water hazards appear primarily on the back nine, adding a layer of caution that can test even modest handicaps.

Visitors will find the Wilshire clubhouse modest yet welcoming, with staff noted for friendliness, although solo players might experience varied reception. The course is geared toward those seeking an economical round within an accessible setting rather than premier championship conditions. Walking is possible but guests should prepare for uneven footing in some areas, and robust golf shoes are advisable.

Wilshire’s location offers easy access for golfers in the Winston-Salem area, making it a practical choice for casual play or charity events. While it lacks the refinements of higher-tier facilities, it retains a charm in its community-oriented approach and reasonable rates. For players aiming for a relaxed round without the pressures of an exclusive club, Wilshire Golf Club provides an honest, if occasionally uneven, option to enjoy golf’s fundamentals amid local North Carolina scenery.

Course Highlights

Wilshire’s course features a practical design that emphasizes shot precision, with several holes bordered by woodlands and wetlands. While course conditioning has faced difficulties, the layout includes strategic bunker placements around the greens and water hazards on the back nine that require careful navigation. The friendly clubhouse staff support community events and casual play, reflecting the club’s accessible character.

I think this course has so much potential and I love the layout. I honestly haven't played here in probably over a year due to the fact that the fairways weren't very well taken care of. it just seems like your playing on dirt the whole time. Also last time I went, I was a solo playing on a not very busy day. The guy at the counter seemed to cop an attitude when he found out I was a solo. I asked him if that was an issue, he said and I quote "i lose money when it's a solo." That's another reason why I haven't played there in over a year. I play on better maintained courses (in clemmons and Davie County); who have NEVER made me feel like i was a burden playing solo

This course could be decent if the grounds were taken care of! It's disappointed me every time I've golfed here. Always huge patches of dead grass or completely soaked areas. The cart path is in horrible condition. They would probably be better off to just bust up what asphalt is left and turn it into a gravel path. Massive potholes all throughout. I've even golfed while there were concrete chunks in the fairway?? Like what? The price is "cheapish" for golf but way over priced for the condition of the course.

Charged full price but could basically only play 9 due to them being pretty much a water hazard, no heads up, no warning, was piss poor on the course attendant to not let players know but they were happy to take the money

They allowed us to use their course for a charity golf tourney. Thing went great. They were great to work with.

If you’re looking for a golf course that lets you live out your PGA Tour fantasies while reminding you you’re actually just a regular guy with a $14 slice, Wilshire Golf Club is the place. The course? Beautiful. Fairways smoother than my pickup lines (which isn’t saying much). Greens that are fast enough to make you question everything you thought you knew about putting. Bunkers? Deep enough to start charging rent if you end up in them too much. (Ask me how I know.) The vibe? Chill but competitive — like everyone’s secretly hoping you shank your drive so they can feel better about their own day. Staff? Top-notch. Friendly, helpful, and somehow didn’t laugh when I asked if they had a “lost ball punch card.” The clubhouse? Perfect mix of “respectable” and “yeah, we’ve seen some things.” Cold drinks. Good food. Enough TVs to keep you updated on sports while you pretend your triple bogey didn’t happen. Wilshire Golf Club is that rare place where: You can show up serious or just show up for fun. You can play a great round or invent entirely new curse words on Hole 12. And no matter how bad it gets, you still feel like you should come back next weekend and try again. Highly recommend. Bring your clubs, bring your optimism, and maybe bring an extra dozen balls — just to be safe.
