Wilshire Golf Club

Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USACentral North Carolina

Wilshire Golf Club in Winston-Salem delivers an accessible 18-hole parkland experience across gently rolling terrain. Its inviting layout suits a wide range of players, offering affordable golf in a relaxed environment with basic amenities and manageable walking conditions.

Course Overview

Wilshire Golf Club in Winston-Salem offers an 18-hole layout geared toward accessible enjoyment rather than championship rigor. This public course presents a traditional parkland style across gently rolling terrain that weaves through mature trees and natural wetlands. Its straightforward routing makes it approachable for golfers seeking a relaxed round without demanding precision, though occasional uneven areas may require a steady hand and adaptive strategy.

Set within a suburban environment, Wilshire delivers a largely flat but visually varied experience. Fairways are generous in width, allowing players of all skill levels to navigate without feeling penalized for minor inaccuracies. Greens, while modest in complexity, reward solid approach shots, though irregular maintenance at times affects surface consistency. Water hazards and bunkers are scattered strategically, providing occasional challenge and requiring thoughtful shot placement.

While the course layout offers potential for improvement, the welcoming staff and low green fees create an inviting atmosphere for locals and visitors alike. The clubhouse facilities serve as a practical hub, offering basic amenities such as a pro shop and snack bar, making it a convenient stop for casual golfers.

Walking is encouraged and remains manageable thanks to the mostly flat topography; however, the condition of cart paths and course grounds can be variable. Players contemplating a visit should bring sturdy shoes to navigate spots where turf quality fluctuates. Tee times are easily booked, supporting spur-of-the-moment play and group outings.

Wilshire’s approachable design supports a broad range of golfers, yet those seeking top-tier course conditions or intricate architectural features may find it wanting. Still, the course’s affordability and relaxed pace position it as a useful venue for skill development and casual rounds.

For anyone looking to experience golf around Winston-Salem without heavy commitment, Wilshire Golf Club offers a straightforward and friendly environment. It answers the call for accessible golf with a sense of community spirit, providing a playable layout adaptable to varied levels of play and expectations.

Course Highlights

The course features a classic parkland layout with wide fairways lined by mature trees and natural wetlands that come into play on several holes. Its simple routing offers fairness to beginners and casual players, while water hazards and strategically placed bunkers add sporadic challenge. The clubhouse serves as a modest but functional facility supporting daily play and local events.

Charged full price but could basically only play 9 due to them being pretty much a water hazard, no heads up, no warning, was piss poor on the course attendant to not let players know but they were happy to take the money

I think this course has so much potential and I love the layout. I honestly haven't played here in probably over a year due to the fact that the fairways weren't very well taken care of. it just seems like your playing on dirt the whole time. Also last time I went, I was a solo playing on a not very busy day. The guy at the counter seemed to cop an attitude when he found out I was a solo. I asked him if that was an issue, he said and I quote "i lose money when it's a solo." That's another reason why I haven't played there in over a year. I play on better maintained courses (in clemmons and Davie County); who have NEVER made me feel like i was a burden playing solo

This course could be decent if the grounds were taken care of! It's disappointed me every time I've golfed here. Always huge patches of dead grass or completely soaked areas. The cart path is in horrible condition. They would probably be better off to just bust up what asphalt is left and turn it into a gravel path. Massive potholes all throughout. I've even golfed while there were concrete chunks in the fairway?? Like what? The price is "cheapish" for golf but way over priced for the condition of the course.

If you’re looking for a golf course that lets you live out your PGA Tour fantasies while reminding you you’re actually just a regular guy with a $14 slice, Wilshire Golf Club is the place. The course? Beautiful. Fairways smoother than my pickup lines (which isn’t saying much). Greens that are fast enough to make you question everything you thought you knew about putting. Bunkers? Deep enough to start charging rent if you end up in them too much. (Ask me how I know.) The vibe? Chill but competitive — like everyone’s secretly hoping you shank your drive so they can feel better about their own day. Staff? Top-notch. Friendly, helpful, and somehow didn’t laugh when I asked if they had a “lost ball punch card.” The clubhouse? Perfect mix of “respectable” and “yeah, we’ve seen some things.” Cold drinks. Good food. Enough TVs to keep you updated on sports while you pretend your triple bogey didn’t happen. Wilshire Golf Club is that rare place where: You can show up serious or just show up for fun. You can play a great round or invent entirely new curse words on Hole 12. And no matter how bad it gets, you still feel like you should come back next weekend and try again. Highly recommend. Bring your clubs, bring your optimism, and maybe bring an extra dozen balls — just to be safe.
