Course Overview
Located along Under Mountain Road in Copake, New York, Undermountain Golf Course Inc. offers a compact yet satisfying test of golf that appeals to players seeking a brief but engaging round. This nine-hole course, par 32, stretches over a modest but thoughtfully designed layout that rewards precision and strategy over length. The course’s setting amidst the gentle rises of the Berkshire foothills provides a serene backdrop, combining woodland charm with scenic mountain views that never feel overbearing. Each hole unfolds with distinct challenges, particularly the greens, which are noted for their firmness and subtle breaks, inviting careful read and deft touch.
Designed with playability in mind, Undermountain accommodates a wide range of golfers. The varied tee placements, especially when playing the 18-hole option by repeating the back nine with alternate tee boxes, add enough variation to keep more experienced golfers engaged without overwhelming beginners. The smaller scale means that drives are less crucial here, shifting the emphasis toward accurate iron play and putting finesse. Many players find the pace of play brisk when walking, which is encouraged, making it an appealing choice for families, vacationers, or those looking to squeeze in a quick round in natural surroundings.
Maintenance at Undermountain remains a strong point, with well-kept fairways and clean, rolling greens that hold their line under differing conditions. Although the course is modest in size, it offers enough strategic elements such as bunkers positioned to test approach shots and subtle elevation shifts that influence club selection. The friendly staff and reasonable pricing contribute to an unpretentious atmosphere that highlights the pure enjoyment of golf.
Visitors should prepare for a straightforward experience that focuses on shot control rather than power. Good walking shoes are advisable, as the course’s terrain involves gentle slopes but no overly strenuous climbs. Early mornings or late afternoons provide the best light and cooler conditions, enhancing both visual appeal and comfort. While it lacks the scale of championship venues, Undermountain’s charm lies in its approachable layout and peaceful environment, making it a worthy stop for golfers exploring the Central New York region.
Course Highlights

Short 9 holes. Par 32. Interesting layout. Challenging greens.

Very nice course! I recently played here in vacation visiting my wife's family. The greens are the best part of the course in my opinion. They're quite small but all in very good condition. They all roll and break the same as they should. It's a very short course and for me the driver is only needed on one hole or two if you play 18. Great course to walk if you're able it may actually be quicker to play. I rode 18 with family and that was a great 5 hours on the course. I then woke the next morning and walked 9 in one hour and thirty five minutes. I highly recommend playing here if you're near the area, the price is fair and staff is ok as well.

Only ~$40 for 18+cart! Very nice little 9 hole golf course, tucked away in the mountains. Absolutely gorgeous scenery. Course is incredibly well maintained, best 9 hole course I've played. Different tees for people playing 18, and they're pretty decently spaced so it definitely feels like a different back 9. I teed off at 11am, there were a few people ahead and behind. Would definitely recommend. Pretty good deal all around. The drive out from Albany was absolutely worth it.

Awful experience. The owner and staff cursed and yelled at me and then when I told them to relax they grabbed me and assaulted me. Place should be shut down.

Great little golf course. 9 holes with a mix of par 3s and 4s. Not long but challenging. Played late fall, things were dry, and greens were slow but very fun. Will definitely return.
