Course Overview
Located in the heart of Albuquerque, New Mexico, the UNM North Golf Course offers a classic 18-hole layout that embraces the city's natural contours while providing an accessible yet rewarding test of golf. As a public facility operated by the University of New Mexico, it welcomes golfers of various skill levels eager to engage with a course that balances playability with subtle challenges. The course stretches across roughly 6,500 yards with a par set typically around 71, offering ample variety within its fairways and greens to encourage both strategy and creativity.
The landscape of UNM North Golf Course leans toward a parkland style, featuring mature trees that frame holes and often influence shot selection. These arboreal guardians create pockets of shade and a sense of quiet shelter from the urban surroundings while prompting thoughtful navigation around tight fairways. Well-maintained bunkers punctuate the course, particularly guarding approach shots and adding visual interest to otherwise unassuming holes.
Players will find that the course presents a blend of straightforward holes and those requiring precision, making it approachable for beginners without losing appeal for more seasoned golfers seeking to shape their shots. The rolling terrain introduces gentle elevation changes that test distance control and stance stability without overwhelming the average player.
Amenities include a clubhouse with essential facilities, although details about dining and pro shop offerings align with its university-run public nature—functional and welcoming rather than lavish. The course supports walking, and many players note that the layout is comfortable on foot, though appropriate footwear is recommended given some moderate inclines.
Accessible from 2201 Tucker Ave NE, the UNM North Golf Course benefits from a community atmosphere where golfers can enjoy well-kept greens and fairways without the exclusivity of private clubs. While parking and practice area policies have seen recent updates, the course’s overall condition and friendly staff continue to make it a valued part of Albuquerque’s golf scene. Parking at the North golf course has just become difficult. A permit is required to place on the dashboard, but permits are only given to golfers playing the course. The practice green and chipping areas are now off limits to those of us that just want to practice and not play for the day. Parking office looking for more revenue apparently since they are now ticketing practicing golfers who choose not to play or cannot play. Course is supported by state taxpayer dollars, but state taxpayers are no longer welcome to the practice facilities.

The golf course facility manager has recently changed the parking requirements for those of us who use the practice facilities, we are subject to a ticket with no protection based on their new parking policies and procedures. UNM facilities manager has yet to return even my voicemail to alert me on what they’ve done to protect people who do utilize their facilities for practice, but don’t purchase a round of golf. Not a good experience for a public course.

Nice walking/running trail. About a 2 mile loop with some small hills. Parking is a little tight if you go during peak times.

Don't go if you just want to chip and putt. They wont validate parking, when asked the guy said "you'll just get a ticket". What?
