Ladera Golf Course

Albuquerque, New Mexico, USACentral New Mexico

Ladera Golf Course in Albuquerque presents a demanding yet approachable 18-hole layout amid high desert landscapes. Its open fairways and wind-influenced play offer versatility for all skill levels, complemented by practical amenities including a driving range and clubhouse.

Course Overview

Ladera Golf Course offers a distinctive municipal golf experience amid Albuquerque’s high desert terrain, combining a spacious 18-hole layout with the characteristic challenges of an inland links-inspired design. The course stretches over approximately 6,800 yards with a par of 72, presenting a firm test for golfers seeking a blend of strategy and endurance. Sculpted with open fairways and large greens, Ladera showcases an intriguing balance between accessible playability for weekend players and subtle hazards that engage those with lower handicaps.

The course’s setting highlights the arid landscape of northern New Mexico, where wide vistas meet the rugged textures of the desert environment. Wind plays a significant role, often requiring attention to shot selection and trajectory. Fairways, while generally generous in width, are framed by sandy waste areas that serve as natural bunkers, compelling players to think carefully about risk and reward. The greens themselves tend to be moderately undulating but can present a challenge when wind conditions intensify.

For visitors planning a round, walking is the preferred mode of play, though carts are offered under operational discretion. Due to occasional seasonal stresses on turf and high-volume days, some fairways may be roped off as they recover from maintenance. This requires adaptability but also underscores the course’s commitment to sustainable upkeep.

Ladera provides practical on-site amenities including a well-maintained practice facility that features both a driving range and chipping area, perfect for warming up or honing short games. The pro shop and clubhouse extend friendly service reflective of the community-driven atmosphere typical of public courses.

Golfers visiting Ladera will appreciate the chance to test their skills against shifting winds and varied lies, all while enjoying an approachable layout accessible to a wide range of abilities. Whether tackling the course for casual enjoyment or focused improvement, Ladera Golf Course remains a key destination within Albuquerque’s golf scene, delivering reliable conditions and a genuine New Mexico golf experience.

Course Highlights

Ladera Golf Course is defined by its open, links-style layout set against the New Mexico desert backdrop, where wind is a natural and constant opponent. Wide fairways framed by sandy waste areas and undulating greens demand strategic thinking. The course’s design offers varied play, appealing to both recreational and more competitive golfers. Its driving range and practice area provide solid preparation spaces before a round.

Course is in over all great shape. A couple of fairways are still growing... and rope off. Green are pretty good. Some still bumpy. Waaay better than arroyo del oso

We’ve always considered Ladera our home course and were excited to plan a family golf outing there today. We made a tee time after church and arrived looking forward to spending our Sunday together. Unfortunately, we were extremely disappointed with how things unfolded. Upon arrival, we waited over 20 minutes in the pro shop line. When we finally reached the front, we were abruptly told that no carts would be issued due to high volume. This was never communicated in advance. We kindly explained that one of our group members has knee issues and walking the course wasn’t an option. The response we received was dismissive: “It’s the busy season—things like this happen.” There was no attempt to accommodate us or offer alternatives. This completely derailed our Sunday plans and left a sour impression. We had a group of over 10 people ready to support the course and enjoy a great day of golf. Instead, we were left frustrated and excluded. We truly hope Ladera reconsiders how they handle peak times and communicates better with loyal guests. As it stands, we’ll think twice about returning or recommending the course in the future.

Course is in terrible shape currently. Fairways are pretty dead everywhere and sandy/rocky top dressed greens. They should be charging half price, look elsewhere.

The course it's in pretty good shape. Although some of the putting surfaces could be a lot better. Thursday's hot dog deal is definitely the best day to go.

The t box markers were having people stand in mudd, make me a Marshall and I'll make sure that doesn't happen on my days. Golfers need to fix their ball marks. Nice people behind the counter, very reasonable price.
