Course Overview
Bey Lea Golf Course in Toms River, New Jersey, offers a welcoming 18-hole layout that balances approachability with subtle challenges, making it a solid choice for golfers across all skill levels. As a public municipal course, it provides accessible golf without sacrificing quality or pace, ideal for locals and visitors pursuing an enjoyable round without the pressure of elite championship conditions.
The course stretches comfortably over a moderate yardage, with wide fairways that invite a forgiving tee shot while still demanding thoughtful shot placement as players navigate bunkers and strategically placed hazards. Large, subtle undulations on the putting surfaces reward careful reading and stroke control, maintaining engagement from the first tee through the closing hole. Greens are generally consistent, though fast and firm conditions can elevate the test for mid to low handicappers.
Set within the gentle natural landscape of Ocean County, Bey Lea does not overwhelm the senses with dramatic elevation changes or rugged terrain but offers a peaceful backdrop punctuated by mature trees lining many fairways, lending both shelter and character. The course's open layout accommodates walking comfortably, though golf carts equipped with GPS are available to maintain efficient pace throughout the round.
Players often praise the course's straightforward design, which favors precision over power, encouraging golfers to sharpen their iron game while providing ample recovery space from errant shots. This playability makes Bey Lea an inviting venue for beginners as well as those seeking to refine consistency.
Though modest in its scale and upkeep, the club atmosphere remains friendly and approachable. Management emphasizes keeping tee times flowing, though players should be mindful that during peak periods rounds may extend beyond four hours, especially without an active pace-of-play monitor. Planning afternoon or twilight rounds on weekdays may enhance the experience by avoiding congestion.
Bey Lea’s practical mix of open fairways, receptive greens, and accessible pricing elevates it as a dependable stop in central New Jersey’s golf scene. It stands as a course where players can focus on the fundamentals, enjoy the game’s rhythms, and rediscover the satisfaction of a cleanly struck shot without distraction.

It's a good course for most levels of golfers, but not to challenging for the scratch golfer. The staff is for the most part friendly and helpful. They seem to have a good system for getting people out and through the course. Prices are based on a town member , but if you not a card holder , it's still reasonable. A 4hr round is very possible!

Currently sitting on the 13th tee box. No small surprise we started 40 minutes late from our original tee time. Typical overbooking issues along with ridiculous slow play with nobody out to enforce it. 90 degrees and no beverage cart either. This place has gotten worse over the years with these issues, youre better off driving out of toms river to play someone else that's nicer and care about pace of play.

Weekly outing, play front nine and in fair shape. Green are hard and fast. Fairways are pretty much wide open.

Course is in great shape and very beginner/intermediate friendly. Big fairways and consistent greens I find myself wanting to come back. My reason for giving this 4 stars is the pace of play. Two times in a row I've gone for a quick 9 after work (5pm twilight) and it's taken me well over two and a half hours to finish 9 holes. I am an amateur golfer at the best of times and both times we were playing with 4 people (two walking) and we still had to wait 5+ minutes at each hole for slower groups (all using carts) in front of us. This kills any momentum and really ruins the flow of an otherwise great course. Both times no ranger in sight to speed things up. Hoping they fix this quickly as the days get shorter, I'd rather go somewhere else so I can get 9 holes in before the sun sets
