Charleston Springs Golf Course

Millstone, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

Charleston Springs Golf Course in Millstone, NJ features two distinct 18-hole layouts blending rolling terrain with strategic bunkering. Known for excellent conditioning and accessible design, it offers a balance of challenge suitable for a wide range of golfers.

Course Overview

Charleston Springs Golf Course, situated in Millstone, New Jersey, offers an authentic experience that blends championship-level challenge with welcoming accessibility. The facility features two distinct 18-hole courses, known as the North and South courses, each presenting a unique test across a diverse landscape shaped by rolling terrain and subtle elevation changes. Positioned comfortably within Central New Jersey, Charleston Springs stands out for its straightforward layout that caters to a broad range of skill levels, from aspiring beginners to seasoned players seeking strategic complexity.

The South course, in particular, commands attention for its thoughtful design that balances length and shot-making variety. Here, golfers face well-placed bunkers and subtle green undulations demanding precision rather than power alone. The fairways carry a smooth contour that encourages creativity in club selection, while sand traps present a persistent challenge, especially given drainage limitations that can harden the playing surface under certain conditions. These elements combine to keep every round engaging, requiring players to remain attentive through each hole.

Maintenance ranks among Charleston Springs’ strong suits. Reviewers consistently note the course's excellent conditioning through the seasons, with fairways and fringes displaying lush, well-tended turf. Practice facilities enhance the overall experience with expansive putting greens and dedicated short game areas, allowing visitors to fine-tune their skills before stepping onto the course. Despite an older clubhouse that some find dated, the friendly staff and smooth pace of play maintain a welcoming atmosphere.

Walking the ground is encouraged, thanks to gently rolling landscapes and well-maintained paths that accommodate players who prefer to experience the course on foot. Given the New Jersey climate, spring through fall offers the best windows for play, with late summer rounds rewarding golfers with prime course conditions.

Charleston Springs Golf Course demands respect for its mixture of playability and practical challenge, making it a reliable member of the regional golf community and a refreshing alternative to heavily commercialized venues. This is a place where good golf thrives amid honest, steady terrain and well-crafted holes.

PLAY HERE BEFORE THE 2023 GOLF SEASON IS OVER! *I’ve played thrice since August* This place is so well run. From the extensive short game practice area to the massive practice putting greens, this is a must play course. As my photos show, the fairways and fringe are in phenomenal condition. I played during late August, mid-September, and early October and the place stays PRIME. Pace of play is great and the staff are quite friendly. Arrive early and take advantage of the practice areas. The South course is challenging enough even when playing from the tips. All parts of your game are used when here. Seriously, get here and play.

I've played both of their courses over 100 times back when I lived in NJ, and always enjoyed them. Always nice conditions, they are very well maintained county courses. The courses are long, but very walkable.

Grew up learning the game in New Jersey, but now reside in South Carolina.. I missed the distinct feel of the courses in Jersey as opposed to the flat swamp golf of Myrtle Beach. Don't take courses like this for granted! And FIX YOUR BALL MARKS!

Charleston South. Early tee time. Muggy but ok. Sand traps remain a challenge at Charleston, both North and South. They lack sand and drainage. What sand they do have becomes hard packed, causing the club to skip.

Great county course. Well maintained, two 18 hole courses, putting green, chipping area, and grass driving range. Only downside is that the clubhouse is outdated.
