Ocean Acres Country Club

Manahawkin, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

Ocean Acres Country Club delivers an approachable 18-hole public course set amid coastal wetlands and rolling terrain in Manahawkin, NJ. With a focus on strategic play and inviting conditions, this layout suits golfers of all levels seeking a relaxed yet rewarding round near the shore.

Course Overview

Ocean Acres Country Club presents an 18-hole public layout that offers a blend of accessible playability and inviting natural beauty along the Jersey Shore. Located in Manahawkin, New Jersey, the course spreads across gently rolling terrain punctuated by mature trees, well-defined fairways, and peninsula-like holes bordered by native wetlands. The design encourages strategic shot-making without overwhelming less experienced players, making it a favored choice for golfers of varying skill levels seeking a coastal plain-style challenge.

The course's architecture places emphasis on straightforward routing, where wide fairways welcome approaches that test distance control and green reading rather than forced precision. Though not long by championship standards, the total yardage invites players to assess risk and reward carefully, particularly around a handful of ponds and bunkers positioned to influence tee shots and approaches. Notably, holes like the par-4 tenth amplify strategic decisions with water guarding one flank of the fairway and green, adding an element of drama while maintaining fairness.

Players will find Ocean Acres equipped with thoughtfully maintained greens that accommodate smooth putting surfaces, though pace of play can occasionally impact the experience at peak times. The staff’s friendly presence in the clubhouse and on the grounds provides a welcoming atmosphere, complemented by practice facilities including a driving range and putting green to warm up before setting out.

While walking is an option, golf carts are also available by request, permitting players to choose the pace and style that suits them most. Standard golf attire is expected, respecting the club’s guidelines to ensure a comfortable environment for all. As a public course, Ocean Acres supports member and non-member play, with tee times available via reservation. Visitors planning a round should consider weekday mornings or early afternoons to avoid congestion and enjoy a more fluid pace.

Ocean Acres Country Club stands as a practical, approachable venue that balances challenge and enjoyment, offering a solid golf experience framed by natural New Jersey landscapes and a community-minded spirit.

Course Highlights

The course features a coastal plain style with well-placed bunkers and wetland hazards that shape shot selection. Hole 10 is a signature par-4 with water running alongside the fairway and guarding the green, demanding careful strategy. Natural wetland views provide a quiet backdrop, while the course’s wide fairways lend themselves to forgiving play without sacrificing challenge for better players.

I was expecting a far less enjoyable experience after reading other reviews. But I was relieved and pleasantly surprised how enjoyable this course was. We had a great time and played incredible golf. The only complaint I would have is the pace of play. I noticed a ranger , but never seen him encouraging the group in front to speed it up a bit or even to stop taking 3 additional shots after topping the ball time after time. Overall a fun course , would definitely play here again !

Awful , continue to pay full price just to stand on tee boxes for 20 min, the ranger does not help or push people along , way over priced for subpar experience. Fairway grass it to long , not kept up properly for a course that’s charging almost as much as LBI national which blows this course out of the water. Be prepared to over pay for a 530-6 hour round of golf

Pace of play? None existent. Fairways? Sand and rocks Greens? Slow as molasses Layout has the potential to be something extraordinary, but lack of upkeep is what’s holding it back. Expensive pricing for a course in weak condition… this course is no more than $20. Hole 10 is the lone highlight in the current state. Would not recommend.

Easily the worst course I’ve ever been to. Management is absolutely horrendous. and the course was horribly maintained, please steer clear of this course.

I love playing this course and have made it my new home course. Staff have always been amazing and the prices are reasonable. Only complaint is that the bar closes early on Saturdays (it is still early in the season) and that the pace of play can be a little slow at times. Other than that this is the best course for the money in my area!

Ocean Acres Country Club is a solid course…well-kept greens, friendly staff, and a nice layout that’s enjoyable for all skill levels. The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is because of how backed up the course gets. Even on a weekday morning with plenty of tee times available, we found ourselves logjammed for most of the round. It would really improve the experience if they spaced out the tee times a bit more like LBI National does to allow for a smoother pace of play. Really no reason to have a tee time every 6-8 mins. Otherwise, it’s definitely worth checking out For the money.

The course and facilities could use some TLC. Pace of play was 5+ hours. Great potential, just need to address the upkeep and maintenance.
