Plainfield Country Club

Edison, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

Plainfield Country Club delivers an 18-hole championship golf experience defined by classic parkland style and strategic playability. Its mature tree-lined layout offers a balanced challenge with thoughtfully placed hazards, making it appealing for golfers across skill levels.

Course Overview

Plainfield Country Club offers an 18-hole championship layout combining refined parkland style with a classic East Coast design ethos. Located near Edison, New Jersey, this private club is set within mature tree-lined fairways that shape a measured test for golfers seeking a balanced challenge in a tranquil setting. The course stretches just over 6,800 yards from the back tees with a par of 72, rewarding strategic shot-making while remaining accessible to players with a variety of skill levels.

The landscape gently rolls across well-maintained turf, allowing shot values to rise and fall with subtle elevation changes rather than dramatic topography. This lends itself to a consistent pace of play and makes the routing straightforward yet engaging. Bunkers are strategically placed to guard the edges of greens and catch wayward approaches, demanding precision without overwhelming less experienced players.

Strategic use of water hazards and natural wetlands punctuates several holes, requiring thoughtful club selection and course management, especially on the mid to back nine. The greens are generally receptive with moderate undulations, providing a good test for putting without undue frustration. Seasonal conditions are typically excellent, thanks to the club’s attention to turf care and drainage.

The clubhouse at Plainfield Country Club is a centerpiece of the member experience, offering traditional amenities alongside a welcoming atmosphere for dining and social gatherings. Golfers will find practice facilities that support warm-up routines and skill refinement, enhancing overall enjoyment on the course.

Plainfield Country Club’s design encourages walking, supported by the relatively gentle terrain and thoughtfully placed tees. For those who prefer carts, these are available by request. The club emphasizes a dress code that maintains its refined setting and expects players to conform to membership guidelines.

This course appeals to a wide audience, from committed low handicappers seeking strategic depth to casual players looking for a pleasant day outdoors without the stress of overly punitive hazards. Its blend of natural surroundings, thoughtful maintenance, and classic style makes it a noteworthy destination within Central New Jersey’s golf scene.

Course Highlights

The course is characterized by mature hardwood trees framing most holes, strategic water hazards guarding the middle and closing holes, and classic bunkering that challenges both tee shots and approaches. Its pond-side par 5 eighth hole and the closing par 4 green, protected by a series of deep bunkers, stand out as signature challenges. The club maintains a strong emphasis on course conditioning, contributing to consistent playability year-round.

The staff was nice and polite. But we waited about a hour and 15 mins after ordering our food. There was 5 of us and most were just sandwiches. The food was good but felt just warm and should have only took 10 to 30 minutes. We noticed after the remodel the food seems to be slower. This happened December 26th 2024 at 5pm.

The burger I had was good. Waitress was understanding when I asked for mayo so I could make my own fry sauce.

Nice place Dined with family. Went during Sunday lunch The place was slammed. Service was a little slow, but we didn’t mind as we were visitingz I was a little disappointed because I wanted their chalkboard special. I believe it was a veggie omelette forget the items in the omelette. Alas, too late; quit serving the item at Noon. We arrived at 12:20 P.M. I had the fish and chips. The chips were tater tots. Standard quality, but they gave me a mountain of them. I finished about ½ my serving. The fish featured more fish than breading. I thought the fish nuggets were quite tasty. Our table ordered a variety of lunch plates. I forget what was ordered, but nobody complained. Our server was very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this restaurant to friends.
