Plainfield Country Club

Edison, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

Plainfield Country Club offers a classic parkland 18-hole championship experience in Central New Jersey. With tree-lined fairways, thoughtful bunkering, and undulating greens, the course balances approachability with challenging strategic demands for golfers of all skill levels.

Course Overview

Plainfield Country Club presents an enduring challenge and classic experience in Central New Jersey’s golfing landscape. This private 18-hole championship course offers a traditional parkland style layout, featuring tree-lined fairways and well-maintained greens that invite golfers to engage strategically in every shot. Located just outside Edison, the course is designed for players who appreciate a balance of thoughtful design and natural terrain without compromising playability.

Set within gently rolling terrain, each hole encourages a variety of shot selections. Mature hardwoods create natural corridors that not only frame the game but influence club selection and course management. Bunkers are strategically placed to defend key landing areas and approach shots, requiring careful planning and respect for course angles. The greens are smooth but present subtle breaks, demanding attention to pace and reading. This layout welcomes golfers across a broad skill spectrum—while approachable for mid to high handicaps, it poses ample tests for more advanced players seeking precision and course control.

The club’s commitment to quality extends beyond the playing surface. The elegant clubhouse offers refined dining and comfortable social spaces, well suited for members seeking an all-encompassing club experience. Practice facilities include a well-equipped driving range and short game areas that enable warm-ups or skill refinement before heading out.

Walking the course is encouraged, with gently rolling hills and well-maintained paths aiding ease of movement. Players are advised to bring appropriate footwear for stability, particularly during wetter months when the turf can hold moisture. Seasonal considerations include peak playability during late spring through early fall when the course is at its lushest.

Plainfield Country Club’s setting provides an atmosphere both invigorating and focused, where players can engage with the game amid classic scenery. Its combination of timeless parkland design and member-focused amenities delivers an experience that rewards thoughtful golf and respects the traditions of the sport. For those granted access, it is a place where each round can sharpen skills and cultivate memorable moments of play.

Beautiful golf course and a great walk. The greens are slow in March, but still not an easy read. Thanks to the staff for their hospitality.

Very nice place. We had a large group of 30+ for a business event. The food and service was very good. The staff was attendant, professional and at the same time very personable. The courses were delivered with phenomenally good timing. The acoustics of the room we were in were excellent with no discernible echo. I cannot speak to the quality of the menu as our meal was decided for us. Hopefully we will get to enjoy this place again for future events. I would like to give five stars, but as I stated earlier I was not able to truly experience the items offered on the menu. If I'm not mistaken one must be a member to book a gathering such as ours?

We hosted a 200 person Christmas party here this year and it couldn’t have been more perfect!!! We had more people show up and they were still able to accommodate. Food and service were great. We are members at a top notch club in Charlotte and this was just as good... if not way better. We will do it again next year!!! Kudos to Blair, Jeana, and Eric.

Difficult to rate an entire Club - never saw the actual golf course - over a single visit to a portion of the building facilities. However, the club building we did visit, for my organization's Winter holidays party, was elegant and well-kept. The food, assuming it was catered by the Club, was above average. The staff's customer service was (for 90% of those with whom I interacted) was excellent. Only two of the staff seemed to wish they were somewhere else and, though I smiled and thanked them at various times during the evening, responded either with sullen silence or completely ignored me. Again, based sorely upon what I saw and experienced, a solid four stars.
