We spent this week in Williamsburg golfing. The time I spent with my buddies on 2 of their courses was well enjoyed. The club house restaurant had delicious options and the staff was very attentive. Blue Heron was in crazy good condition. Black Heath could use some water from the sprinkler because the ground was hard as heck. Otherwise the greens were super smooth and I give a total hats off to the staff and club.

We ate and had drinks. 4 of us. My Portobello sandwich had a 2x2 mushroom on it and 2 of my oysters were bad fishy smelling. Drinks were good. Dinner special and quesadillas were delicious but very small portions. Location and atmosphere awesome. Very comfortable seats after golfing.

Well, yesterday was one for the books! NOT OUR FIRST TIME! We played Blackheath Ford Colony (Williamsburg, Virginia) and the cart cut off several times. Once during the round when it cut off, we called the Pro Shop and they remotely restarted the cart, an inconvenience but not a big problem. No, we were not in the wrong area of the Course. The last time it cut off, we called the Pro Shop when Blake and Andy answered the call, accusing us of being in the Parking Lot (we were not) and wanted to know if we were Members. The response was, we are on our way from Hole 18 to cart return, we are not on the parking lot and we are a paying customer and not sure what membership has to do with a cart that is stuck in the middle of the cart path. Since we were not Member’s, he hung up on us. Several other carts passed us, heading in the same direction to the cart return area. Well, he continued to argue and then he hung up the phone. During this time, another employee who was taking several carts to be charged attempted to assist and he discovered that the cart’s battery was dead, he put it in tow mode and suggested we push it with the other cart—that is how we got the cart back to the cart return area. Went into the Pro Shop and things did not go well, probably because we were WOMEN. I should also add that shortly after our cart cut off for the last time, another cart of Women who were Members experienced the same thing. It is unfortunate to that the Member’s that we ran into said to not take it personal because Andy is known for being rude to everyone and all the Member’s know it. One Member said that is the reason that she has not rejoined. This was also reported to Marriott as it was their recommendation. Until things change in the Pro Shop, this Course is not recommended!

I have played numerous courses throughout Williamsburg and would rate the blue heron course at Ford's Colony as okay. The views are great and the traps are well maintained but the course and greens were just average. They claimed that the greens were fast but no one in my group thought they were. In fact, they were much slower than most other courses we have played. I wish I could give you a recommendation for their Blackhearth course but apparently there are no tee times available for outsiders. Every time I call (at least a week out) they always throw us on the Blue Heron course.

We played the black heath course today, and while the greens and fairways are in great shape, the quality of service was not there. There should be a starter at each course, not out where the pro shop is. The starter gave us the go ahead only to find there was a group at the tee box waiting, and another group came to tee off at the same time as us. It felt like groups were just teeing off as they pleased. As a local WBurg resident, there are better options.

This country club offers everything - clubhouse, restaurants, driving range (mats), top quality carts, and two semi-private courses (we played Blue Heron). The course was a lot of fun to play, with good challenges around every corner, but a very playable course that was in really good condition for early spring. the bar and restaurant offered great drinks and good dinner specials for after the round. Definitely a great place to start the season.
