Plainfield Country Club

Edison, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

Plainfield Country Club is a private 18-hole parkland course located near Edison, New Jersey. Featuring mature trees, strategic bunkering, and varied greens, it offers a challenging yet accessible round framed by classic Central Jersey scenery.

Course Overview

Plainfield Country Club offers an 18-hole private course carved into the gentle contours of Central New Jersey’s landscape, just outside Edison. Known for its classic parkland setting, the course balances strategic shot-making with serene surroundings marked by mature trees and subtle elevation changes. This layout provides a thoughtful test for golfers of all skill levels, rewarding precision and strategic thinking rather than brute force.

The course’s fairways are lined with towering oaks and maples that both frame the holes and come into play with errant shots. Greens are well-maintained and present varied breaks, requiring close attention to speed and slope. Bunkers sit strategically to challenge approaches, while water hazards come into play on several holes, adding risk and reward to tee and approach shots. The topography allows for comfortable walking, with gentle rises and falls that offer pleasant vantage points over the course.

Plainfield Country Club’s clubhouse serves as a refined setting for post-round relaxation, featuring dining options and locker room facilities that complement the playing experience. The club emphasizes a member-focused environment, with access limited to members and their guests, preserving an intimate and focused atmosphere.

Players will find the course approachable without feeling trivial. Higher handicappers can enjoy a layout that challenges decision-making, while low handicappers face subtle shot-shaping challenges throughout their round. The relatively narrow fairways demand accuracy off the tee, and the green complexes reward shot precision and touch around the greens.

Seasonal conditions in New Jersey can vary, so visiting in the spring and early fall often provides ideal playing conditions, with moderate weather and firm turf adding to the course’s natural playing dynamics. Walking the course is encouraged, allowing players to connect with the flow and rhythm that the ground invites.

Overall, Plainfield Country Club presents a thoughtfully designed, well-conditioned private course experience that balances classic parkland character with a level of play suited to a wide range of golfers. It remains a distinguished golf destination for serious players who appreciate subtlety and style.

Course Highlights

The course showcases classic parkland architecture with mature hardwoods lining fairways and carefully placed bunkers demanding thoughtful shot placement. Water hazards influence several holes, particularly around the 7th and 15th greens, adding subtle complexity. The clubhouse stands as a hub of refined atmosphere, complementing the playing experience with quality amenities.

You have to pay for balls, not a great price but not breaking the bank either. They have turf to hit from at the moment, but there is space to hit from grass (but there wasn't any when we were there this weekend). Looks like the range is open to the public, but the course is semi private. The clubhouse is the next left up the road, you get the cart and drive down to this range about 3min

This place is for little kids between ages of 2 & 5. Anyone older will be disappointed by the kiddie sled & tube rides. There was only 1 baby bunny slope for tubing. If we had only know it was made for bambinos we would have not spent $40 a person to end up having our own sno ball fight with the 10 of us because we were so bored we were yelling Zippity Do Dah....out of our pie holes! Major disappointment and it's my fault for not doing enough research before hand.

Came in on a Saturday around 4pm and it wasn't very busy. Buy tokens at the front desk to get driving range balls. Just get them before 6pm, because they lock up the machine.
