Course Overview

Plainfield Country Club offers an 18-hole private championship layout that blends tradition with subtle strategic complexity in Central New Jersey’s lush landscape. Located just outside Edison, the course unfolds across gently rolling terrain framed by mature trees and well-maintained fairways that provide clear sightlines and reasonable challenges for players of varied abilities. The setting is classic parkland, featuring tree-lined corridors and well-placed bunkers that test approach shots and demand precision around the greens.

The course stretches out to approximately 6,800 yards from the back tees, with a par of 72, striking a balance between length and shot-making requirements. Each hole presents subtle elevation changes and well-contoured greens, encouraging thoughtful club selection and shot shaping rather than brute force. The layout is approachable for mid to low handicaps but remains forgiving enough to welcome players seeking a quality round without feeling overwhelmed.

Amenities at Plainfield Country Club include a recently updated clubhouse that houses dining facilities and locker rooms, creating a comfortable base for members and guests. The club maintains a policy that fosters walking, and well-kept cart paths are available for those desiring mechanical assistance. This approach enhances the intimacy of the round and connection with the course’s natural rhythm.

Notable features include several par-4s that weave through wooded areas, demanding accuracy off the tee, and well-bunkered greens that guard against careless recovery shots. The course's fairways are generous, yet they narrow subtly near hazards, inviting strategic thinking on every shot. The overall experience strikes a balance between tradition and modern playability, appealing primarily to dedicated members and serious golfers seeking both challenge and charm within a refined private setting.

Players planning a visit should prepare for moderate walking over firm turf, and comfortable walking shoes are recommended. The best playing conditions arrive in late spring through early fall, when the course is at its freshest and slow green speeds offer ideal putting conditions. Visitors should note that member access policies apply, with tee times available by invitation or arrangement through club sponsors.

Course Highlights

The course features strategic bunkering that frames many of the greens, tree-lined approaches demanding crisp ball-striking, and rolling fairways that reward thoughtful club selection. Several par-4 holes wind through clusters of mature hardwoods, providing a natural challenge that requires accuracy off the tee. The clubhouse’s recent updates add comfort without detracting from the club’s traditional atmosphere.

The worst customer service I have ever experienced. Booked a month in advance and they canceled our tee time the morning before the round. When we called the pro shop to get an explanation they said there was a tournament and there is nothing they can do. The guy on the phone said "go play golf somewhere else." Not a single apology or hint of empathy for spending a considerable amount of money and taking time away from family and work to have a guys weekend golfing. You would think they would have the foresight to block days they have tournaments...

Go to Coyote Moon or any other course. Booked group golf for 8 for a bachelor party.Slow email responses all the way through and was super inflexible with terms and accomodations for number of players. When arrived was unfriendly and could find our reservation at first. Then charged us for ONE missing player. Coyote Moon acted first class and greeted us, was flexible and setup games and personalized cart tags and treated us like family. Go there instead!
