Course Overview

Plainfield Country Club offers a refined private golf experience just outside Edison, New Jersey, in the heart of Central New Jersey’s golf country. This 18-hole championship course presents a classic parkland layout set amid mature trees and gently rolling terrain that delivers an engaging round for golfers across skill levels. The course stretches over 6,800 yards from the back tees, with a par of 72, balancing length with strategic design elements that reward thoughtful shot placement. Well-maintained fairways provide consistent lies, while greens range in size and slope, demanding precision on approach and firm touch when putting.

The setting marries natural woodlands with open, sunlit holes, offering subtle elevation changes that influence club selection and shot trajectory. Lined with oak and maple, the fairways funnel players toward undulating putting surfaces often guarded by bunkers that compel accuracy rather than pure distance. In particular, the 15th hole stands out with its narrow landing zone framed by mature trees and a green protected by a deep bunker on the left, encouraging careful navigation.

While the course challenges low handicappers to think strategically, it remains accessible to higher handicaps, especially from forward tees. The playability is enhanced by well-placed tee markers and generous fairway widths that invite confidence off the tee. Seasonal conditions are typically excellent, thanks to consistent maintenance practices.

The clubhouse serves as both a social hub and a place to relax after play, featuring comfortable dining and well-appointed locker rooms. Membership includes access to practice facilities that encompass a driving range, putting green, and short game area, allowing for ample warm-up before heading out.

Walking is encouraged, with gently rolling hills and cart paths designed to maintain pace of play without sacrificing enjoyment. For those planning a visit, dressing smartly and preparing for varied wind conditions will contribute to a rewarding round. The club’s exclusivity ensures a serene environment, where the natural landscape quietly challenges and rewards each shot.

Course Highlights

Plainfield Country Club’s layout is defined by its mature hardwood borders, strategic bunkering, and greens that vary from medium to fast-paced putting surfaces. Key holes, such as the 15th, challenge players with narrow fairways and well-protected greens. Golf course was in good shape and player friendly. Enjoyed the course and the staff was nice. It was my first time there so I'm not sure if I misunderstood or not but if you are wanting a quick drink/snack on the turn they don't have any so take your own. Also the water on the course don't have cups so on a hot afternoon round it can be very tough.

Excellent St Patrick's Day dinner here. One of the best Irish menus I've seen! Even got my wine tinted green! ☘️

Just moved into the area, was very happy with the course. Wide fairways = some bare spots, challenging greens - some smaller. Staff is good but can see how some would have attitude. Not a walk-able course (unfortunately). They do need water on the course - they do have at bathroom facilities but it didn't work. Play was very slow on the front and opened up as some groups dropped off. A ranger could have helped speed up the slow group. Price was decent as a resident.

I live in sun city, but have only played here once. It's an awesome course, and I had a blast. I usually go there to practice. They have everything you need... A putting green, chipping and sand trap green, and the driving range.

Probably the most pristine golf course I have played on in the low country. Greens perfect rolled great, fairway were smooth with lots of grass, tee boxes were spectacular. I can't wait to go back.
