Hidden River Golf & Casting Club

Edison, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

Plainfield Country Club offers an 18-hole private championship layout designed to challenge golfers with a classic parkland setting. Known for its well-conditioned fairways and strategic bunkering, it provides a balanced test suited to players of varying skill levels within the Central New Jersey golf landscape.

Course Overview

Hidden River Golf & Casting Club in Brutus, Michigan, presents an engaging 18-hole challenge that draws golfers with its dual-style layout and scenic variety. Its front nine channels a links-inspired character, exposing players to open, rolling terrain where gusting winds subtly influence shot strategy. Sand bunkers frame fairways and greens with strategic placement, demanding thoughtful play and controlled shot-making. The transition to the back nine greets golfers with a shift into a forested environment where towering pines and hardwoods create a sheltered amphitheater around the fairways. This transition changes the game, favoring precision off the tee and careful green approaches as the holes wind through the woods.

The course offers a well-maintained landscape that benefits from attentive groundskeeping, evident in the smooth turf and inviting putting surfaces. This care extends to consistent pace of play throughout the round, contributing to an enjoyable experience that suits a broad spectrum of skill levels. While the layout offers challenges for lower handicaps, especially in the wooded back nine, it remains accessible to mid-handicaps seeking to test their accuracy.

Hidden River also includes amenities designed to complement the day’s play. Though recent reports indicated limited food and beverage options, the staff provides courtesy waters to keep players refreshed. The clubhouse serves as a welcoming gathering point that supports the club’s friendly atmosphere without overshadowing the golf itself.

For visiting golfers, walking the course offers a chance to connect attentive ears to the rhythm of the woods and wind. Firm but forgiving footing underscores the recommendation for sturdy golf shoes. Golf carts are available by request, yet many embrace the walk to experience the full range of terrain.

Hidden River Golf & Casting Club carves its identity as a diverse and thoughtfully maintained course in Northern Michigan, balancing open-air holes with intricate wooded challenges. It invites players to navigate changing landscapes and temperamental winds, rewarding strategic choices over raw power. This makes it a compelling destination for golfers planning a visit to a less-traveled, rewarding course in the region.

Course Highlights

The course features a traditional parkland layout with tree-lined fairways and well-guarded greens. Signature holes include a long par-5 with a narrow landing area and a par-3 flanked by deep bunkers. Mature hardwoods shape each hole’s character, while strategically placed hazards demand accuracy off the tee. The club maintains a classic golf atmosphere reflecting decades of tradition.

Fun layout, well maintained, good pace of play. Course will challenge you in different ways. No holes feel redundant. Unfortunately, the restaurant was closed due to staffing issues.

Absolutely amazing course. Picked to play here rather than going over to Boyne, and it was the right move. The course has an amazing layout. Front nine has a little links feel to it and the back take you through the woods. It’s in amazing condition. Well worth the price. Joe, the super intendant has done amazing work. Could not recommend this course enough.

What a beautiful course. We played 18 today and found the course in pristine condition. The back was more challenging and still enjoyed the round. Friendly, helpful staff and rangers. The Grill has menu options I don’t usually see . The Wagyu burger was fantastic.

I thought the course was in great shape and the staff were polite and courteous. The only problem I had was the fact nothing was open for food or beverages. They did offer free bottles of water which was wonderful but there was no option to eat or drink anything else. My group was very disappointed there was no food or beverage option. All in all, it was a great course and I can’t give it a 5 out of 5 because of the lack of food and beverages.
