Course Overview

Plainfield Country Club is a distinguished private golf venue located just outside Edison in Central New Jersey, offering an immaculate 18-hole championship layout that balances classic design with modern playability. The course unfolds across gently rolling terrain, presenting a parkland style that blends mature tree lines with well-maintained fairways and subtly contoured greens. Each hole challenges golfers to thoughtfully consider shot placement while rewarding precision and strategy.

The setting provides a tranquil escape from suburban life, with natural drainage keeping the turf firm and fast through much of the season. Pine and oak trees frame many fairways, providing both aesthetic appeal and strategic challenges in shot shaping. The course varies enough in length and complexity to engage a broad range of players, from mid-handicappers seeking a fair but testing round to more accomplished golfers looking to sharpen their approach shots and putting skills.

Plainfield’s commitment to maintaining top-tier playing conditions is evident in the smooth greens and clean bunkers that protect many of the putting surfaces. Water hazards appear judiciously, adding variety without overwhelming the routing. The property’s clubhouse anchors the experience, with comfortable amenities that include locker rooms, dining options, and a pro shop staffed by experienced professionals.

Accessibility is limited to members and their guests, which helps preserve an atmosphere of exclusivity and quiet enjoyment. Walking is encouraged, with generally gentle slopes that make it a pleasant experience for those who prefer to move on foot, though carts are available on request. The course’s design emphasizes thoughtful shot selection and pace of play, making it an ideal environment for golfers who value a measured, rewarding test.

For those planning a visit or new membership inquiries, preparation tips include bringing reliable iron shots for approach play and putting with an awareness of subtle breaks that appear on the larger greens. Tee times are by reservation, and the club staff provides support tailored to members’ schedules and preferences. Whether seeking regular rounds or tournament play, Plainfield Country Club offers a refined, engaging golf experience reflective of its long-standing regional reputation.

Everyone is super friendly. Lots of activities loved the rolling 27 hole putting green. Ice cream social with Corey our friendly server. Shuttle service is nice around the property especially Duke who went out of his way for us.

First and foremost, the highland condos where we stayed may be privately owned and managed by the resort. That said, they are extremely dated and poorly maintained. See pictures of the sad deck. The kitchen utensils are a mess of things that may or may not be useful if you choose to prepare a meal. Perhaps bring a couple of good knives and a cutting board. I will add that the resort has recently opened a par 3 course at the foot of the slopes behind the lodge named Doon Brae. This is where they receive 5 stars for service. It is new enough that there isn't signage for the course. Sign in is a small shack adjacent to the enormous putting course. I was directed there by a delightful young lady who made her way out of a shuttle van to walk me nearly to the sign in. The course has nice little carry bags that are free of charge; as are the green fees with your resort stay. It was the most enjoyable experience I had at the resort.

I just wanted to shout out to Mike, a team member that was so kind and helpful to me in the parking lot getting my car out of the snow when I was trying to leave. Every single employee we came in contact with was so polite, kind and helpful. The girls at check in were lovely and so sweet to my younger daughter. We rented skis and the process was so easy! We have stayed at other ski resorts and this one is my favorite. Lots of options to hang out as a big group, live music and the hot tub and pool are great! Can't wait to come back!

My husband and I and my son, his wife and our 3 grandchildren were here during memorial day weekend. Overall, the place has beautiful scenery and the service was great especially the servers in the restaurant. They were always happy to help. The breakfast was good but a bit pricey and turkey or chicken sausage options would have been nice for those who don't eat pork. For the most part the rooms were clean but very outdated. Get rid of the 1970's wallpaper, lol! I think this place would be perfect and could get more business if they catered towards young families as well and had a play area for kids, a kids pool or splash pad and not have a naked lady statue! Wheelchair or stroller accessibility is not to great here.

We’ve stayed at the highlands previously and the rooms were really nice! They have a grill outside we were able to use and the pool was heated for the chilly night. We love going to the highlands to ride the mountain bike park! Everyone on the lift is super nice & enjoyable. The trials are gnarly and really fun! They have everything from flowy to techy.
