Plainfield Country Club

Edison, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

An 18-hole private championship course in Central New Jersey, Plainfield Country Club offers a classic parkland layout with bentgrass greens and strategic water hazards. Its approachable yet challenging design provides a rewarding experience for a wide range of golfers.

Course Overview

Plainfield Country Club offers an 18-hole private championship layout that challenges golfers while accommodating a broad range of skill levels. Located just outside Edison in Central New Jersey, the course unfolds across gently rolling terrain marked by stately hardwoods, well-maintained fairways, and strategic bunkering that tests both shot placement and course management. The setting is richly verdant yet surprisingly open in several stretches, allowing sunlight to play off the sculpted greens and water hazards that come into view as you advance. The parkland design ensures the landscape is comfortably walkable, with subtle elevation changes adding an element of variety without overwhelming those who prefer a steady rhythm on their rounds.

At roughly 6,700 yards from the back tees and a par of 72, Plainfield Country Club invites players to think carefully about each shot but remains inviting to mid and higher handicaps. Bentgrass greens provide a smooth putting surface, demanding precise green reading and touch, particularly on the more contoured holes found in the back nine. Water comes into play thoughtfully, appearing on several holes to both enhance the aesthetics and prompt strategic decision-making.

The clubhouse, a refined and well-appointed facility, serves as the heart of the social scene. Inside, members enjoy a blend of tradition and comfort with dining options that overlook parts of the course, making it a perfect spot for post-round gatherings or events. Additional amenities include a fully equipped practice range and short game area, catering to players seeking to sharpen their skills before heading out.

Walking the course is encouraged, with smooth cart paths and thoughtfully placed resting points. The meticulous upkeep of both grounds and facilities reflects a commitment to maintaining an exceptional member experience. Plainfield’s combination of classic design elements with modern conditioning delivers a venue where every round offers familiar pleasures alongside fresh challenges. Whether competing in club events or enjoying a leisurely weekday round, golfers will find a course that rewards thoughtful play and steady improvement.

I started golfing late in life and instantly fell in love with the game. I had never picked up a club before. After playing a few rounds, I instantly understood the draw of spending time on a beautiful landscape with my friends playing a game that can bring you a sense of accomplishment, joy, and peace. Golf can be such an addictive game, chasing the striking of a great shot, and shooting a lower score which inevitably leads to the desire to improve. I had a few lessons early on but found them so overly technical and they did not translate into a better golf swing. The more I watched YouTube for a fix to my golf swing, the worse my swing became. I knew what my issues were; coming over the top, poor contact, swaying in the back swing, yet I could not overcome them leading to frustration in the game I enjoyed so much. At the urging of a friend, I went to Coach Club in Newburyport and bought a package of lessons with Rico Riciputi. I am so pleased with this decision. Rico has a world-class facility and is a great teacher. Rico has been able to address the corrections needed in my swing in the simplest of terms and allowing me to see results right away. I would strongly recommend Coach Club and Rico if you are looking to improve any aspect of your golf game no matter what your skill level may be. Rico is a true pro who makes improving fun and exciting. Coach Club is a five star experience! Chris

Much needed here in NBPT. The owner/pro, Rico has done an amazing job with the setup and aesthetic. He's also a great instructor and all around fun guy. Coach Club is place to be this winter.
