Course Overview

Plainfield Country Club presents an 18-hole private championship layout that challenges players through its classic parkland design while rewarding strategic shot-making. Located just outside Edison, New Jersey, this course unfolds over gently rolling terrain framed by mature hardwoods and carefully maintained fairways. The landscape invites a quiet focus, with tree-lined corridors that narrow certain holes and expansive greens that demand precise distance control.

The course balances playability with challenge, making it suitable for serious low handicappers while remaining approachable to committed mid-handicappers. Golfers encounter a thoughtful sequence of holes where well-placed bunkers guard the putting surfaces and the undulating greens test putting strokes with subtle breaks. The course’s maintenance reflects a high standard, with manicured fairways and greens that encourage consistent roll. Approach shots benefit from open sightlines, encouraging aggressive play off the tee on several par 4s and par 5s. The layout also rewards thoughtful club selection where wind subtly weaves through the trees, challenging tempo and shot shaping. Members value the course's quiet setting and the moderate pace of play, which enhances enjoyment without unnecessary pressure.

This private club reserves access strictly for members and their guests, maintaining an environment of exclusivity and tradition. I played on September 4th as a YGC Guest. The tee boxes were horrendous, the fairways were nonexistent, some bunkers were rock hard, and the greens were bumpy and not maintained. For $125 I expected much more. The only positive was the staff at the course - everyone was extremely kind and welcoming.

Have been enjoying the great conditions this spring at the course. Need to play as much as possible before the close for renovation at the end of the season.

Came here with a couple of friends and I was disappointed since this place was recommended by a family member - I guess it used to be better in the past? The entire course needs to be manicured and/or upgraded with better landscaping.

The design and layout of this golf course is amazing. If you hit the ball well, then you can score well. But make sure you don’t get into some of the green side bunkers or you will have to hike out! The maintenance is just horrible right now. The course will close this fall for a major restoration. It is well needed. The greens did not winter well and were half dead and very bumpy. The staff was super nice. They went way out of their way to make us feel welcome. I went expecting a top 50 public course and found the design was a top 50 but the quality was not even close. Can’t way for it to open back up in a couple years.
