Plainfield Country Club

Edison, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

Plainfield Country Club presents a refined 18-hole parkland layout in Central New Jersey, offering a blend of classic design and modern playability. This private course challenges golfers with thoughtful hazards and well-conditioned greens while providing a peaceful setting just minutes from Edison.

Course Overview

Plainfield Country Club, located just outside Edison, New Jersey, is a private 18-hole championship course set within the rolling landscapes of Central New Jersey. The course offers a classic parkland layout, with tree-lined fairways and carefully sculpted greens that demand precision without overwhelming players. Its setting provides a quiet retreat from urban life, where the interplay of distance, elevation changes, and natural contours shapes a testing yet approachable golf experience.

Spanning over 6,700 yards from the back tees with a par of 72, this course balances challenge and playability for a range of skill levels, though it rewards shot-makers who can control trajectory and distance. The fairways provide generous landing areas, but strategically placed bunkers and water hazards come into play on several holes, inviting thoughtful club selection and calculated risk. Putting surfaces are firm but true, encouraging creativity on approach shots and keen attention to green slopes.

At Plainfield, the clubhouse stands as a central hub, offering members a refined space to unwind before or after rounds, with full-service dining and locker room facilities that reflect the club’s longstanding dedication to service and comfort. Walking the course is encouraged, with paths designed to ease foot traffic without detracting from the natural contours underfoot. Sturdy golf shoes are recommended, especially after rain, due to gently sloping terrain.

The course’s standout features include a mid-round stretch where the interplay of water and elevation makes for memorable scoring opportunities and tests course management skills. Despite its private setting, the club maintains a welcoming atmosphere among its membership, emphasizing tradition without sacrificing modern expectations.

For those planning a visit, the best windows typically fall in spring and early fall when the foliage is vibrant and course conditioning is at its peak. Those aiming to improve their short game will find ample opportunity with closely mown chipping zones and varied green complexes. Plainfield Country Club offers a golf experience that blends a classic Northeastern feel with a surface and setup designed for consistent play throughout the seasons.

Course Highlights

Classic parkland design with tree-lined fairways, strategic bunkering, and water hazards that demand smart play; well-maintained bent grass greens that offer consistent putting surfaces; a mid-round stretch noted for scenic elevation changes and challenging risk-reward opportunities.

Absolutely amazing experience at this private Nashville course. The pro Chad was very accommodating by letting me out to play with some fantastic members in a winter scramble. Fantastic views, lightning fast bent grass greens and an amazing layout. Highly recommend if you can get an in

I went as a guest to this club and had a great time. The staff was very friendly, awesome layout With the exception of the bunkers and tee boxes the course was in very good condition. The tee boxes were not level and the turf quality was below average. The bunkers were inconsistent and varied a great deal in terms of depth of sand until reaching clay. Overall, it was an enjoyable visit and would love to go back.

Playing on reciprocal- the club staff was normal and the course now has hole signage but I will never be back. Second time playing here. The self proclaimed members behind us ran us off, and had some sick enjoyment about it. They started between #7 and #8, highly intoxed and becoming violent when their four some approached us twice. We made the turn quickly skipping the club, but were held up on play in front of us on #11, (as happens on weekends) The four guys were GONE and screaming incoherent things and hitting balls into us. All were male, two beards, and one chubby guy. We holed out and left early.

Excellent facility with cordial staff. Challenging layout, one of only a handful of courses with bent grass greens!
