Course Overview

Located just a short drive from Edison, New Jersey, Plainfield Country Club offers an 18-hole championship layout that blends classic parkland design with a distinct sense of place. This private course presents a traditional experience marked by tree-lined fairways, well-manicured greens, and a layout that encourages strategic shot-making without overwhelming players. The course stretches over approximately 6,700 yards from the back tees, with a par of 72, providing a challenge that rewards accuracy and thoughtful club selection.

Set within the gently rolling terrain of Central New Jersey, Plainfield’s fairways wind through mature hardwoods and pockets of natural foliage, creating a tranquil setting that shifts subtly with the seasons. While not excessively long, the course's subtle elevation changes and well-positioned bunkers require a precise approach, making it suitable for golfers seeking a test that balances challenge with playability. Mid- and high-handicap players will find the tees accessible, while low handicappers can sharpen their shot-shaping skills and course management.

Members enjoy a full range of amenities including practice facilities designed to improve every aspect of their game—from driving range bays to putting greens that mirror course conditions. Walking is encouraged here, with terrain and paths that comfortably accommodate pedestrians; sturdy shoes are recommended to handle the occasional gentle slope and turf.

A noteworthy characteristic of Plainfield Country Club is the blend of natural contours and man-made challenges that never feel forced. Bunkers protect the greens strategically, while the layout’s flow allows golfers to settle into their rhythm as they move from hole to hole. Despite its private status, the club retains an inviting atmosphere, emphasizing traditional golf values and camaraderie.

For those planning a visit or membership consideration, the course plays best in spring through fall, when the grounds are at their freshest and the changing foliage adds striking color contrasts. Great course, little busy. Some of the fairways could use a little help, but it's been dry.

Set a tee time for 5pm online, the price included the fee to play and the cart fee. All four of us show up and go to pay and the pro shop attendant said no carts after 4:30, which was never specified when making a tee time.. This happened late last season and we thought well it is the end of the year so I get it and just walked. Also when making the tee time I tried calling to ask if the same rule still applied, nobody answered, left a message and no call back. Awesome course and great atmosphere but this is BS. Trying to play on a Friday after work and this happens.

Better condition than elm ridge but there is no ranger. Most of the players are low end of amateur golfers. No awareness no etiquette or knowledge of the game. Slowwwwww

This course is always a great go-to when you need 9 or 18! Accessible, friendly staff, good pricing! Green are in great condition, and the fairways are nice in the spring and summer! Wish I could rate 4.5 instead of 4.

Course was alright, staff was completely incompetent and rude… took my group 7 hours to golf 18 because they scheduled an unannounced tournament that was very poorly scheduled. I had to to clean all the trash out of my cart that was left by a previous golfer, ranger was very hostile and aggressive yelling at my group and the group behind us, we explained that we were waiting on 2 groups ahead of us and he just continued to yell at us WHILE ADMITTING THAT THE TOURNAMENT WAS POORLY SCHEDULED. Place is a dump don’t recommend to anyone trying to play a relaxing game of golf. I’ve golfed many clubs in the country and this was by far my worst experience. Hot dogs were great though
