Edison, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

Plainfield Country Club features a challenging yet approachable 18-hole private championship course set in the gentle parkland terrain of Central New Jersey. Mature trees, strategic bunkers, and well-rolled greens create a classic golfing experience designed to engage players of diverse skill levels.

Course Overview

Plainfield Country Club offers an 18-hole private championship course that balances challenge and approachability within the Central New Jersey landscape. Designed to reward precision over brute force, the layout presents a classic parkland style characterized by rolling fairways framed by mature hardwoods. The terrain gently undulates, requiring thoughtful club selection and shot placement at every turn, while bunkers strategically guard many of the well-maintained greens. This attention to detail creates a testing yet fair test for golfers across a range of skill levels.

From the first tee, players encounter a course that demands respect but welcomes steady play. The routing navigates through stretches of tree-lined holes and open areas that invite risk-reward strategies, making it a suitable venue for members who seek both competitive play and leisurely rounds. The course length stretches over 6,700 yards from the championship tees with a par of 72, placing a premium on shot control and short-game proficiency.

The surrounding setting offers a quiet respite from the bustle of nearby Edison, with the clubhouse serving as the social hub for members. Facilities include a pro shop, practice ranges, and dining options that complement the golf experience without overwhelming it. Golfers who prefer walking will find the course approachable for strolls, with gently rolling terrain and well-tended paths.

While the club maintains a traditional atmosphere, course conditions remain consistently high, reflecting dedicated agronomy efforts. The playability ensures that lower handicap players find strategic challenges, especially around greens protected by subtle slopes and well-positioned hazards, while higher handicappers can enjoy a fair layout that rewards thoughtful approach shots.

Planning a visit requires membership or invitation; however, those granted access can expect a courteous staff and a setting where the game remains the central focus. Plainfield Country Club’s blend of classic design and maintained condition keeps it a respected fixture among Central New Jersey’s private courses.

Better condition than elm ridge but there is no ranger. Most of the players are low end of amateur golfers. No awareness no etiquette or knowledge of the game. Slowwwwww

This course is always a great go-to when you need 9 or 18! Accessible, friendly staff, good pricing! Green are in great condition, and the fairways are nice in the spring and summer! Wish I could rate 4.5 instead of 4.

Set a tee time for 5pm online, the price included the fee to play and the cart fee. All four of us show up and go to pay and the pro shop attendant said no carts after 4:30, which was never specified when making a tee time.. This happened late last season and we thought well it is the end of the year so I get it and just walked. Also when making the tee time I tried calling to ask if the same rule still applied, nobody answered, left a message and no call back. Awesome course and great atmosphere but this is BS. Trying to play on a Friday after work and this happens.

Course was alright, staff was completely incompetent and rude… took my group 7 hours to golf 18 because they scheduled an unannounced tournament that was very poorly scheduled. I had to to clean all the trash out of my cart that was left by a previous golfer, ranger was very hostile and aggressive yelling at my group and the group behind us, we explained that we were waiting on 2 groups ahead of us and he just continued to yell at us WHILE ADMITTING THAT THE TOURNAMENT WAS POORLY SCHEDULED. Place is a dump don’t recommend to anyone trying to play a relaxing game of golf. I’ve golfed many clubs in the country and this was by far my worst experience. Hot dogs were great though

Great course, little busy. Some of the fairways could use a little help, but it's been dry.
