Plainfield Country Club is a private 18-hole parkland course in Edison, New Jersey, offering a classic test framed by mature trees and strategically placed bunkers. The course balances playability for a range of skill levels with an emphasis on thoughtful shot placement and consistent conditions year-round.

Course Overview

Plainfield Country Club offers an 18-hole private championship course located just outside Edison, New Jersey, within the Central New Jersey golfing region. The layout speaks to classic parkland design, delivering a well-balanced test defined by mature trees, gently rolling fairways, and strategically placed bunkers that demand thoughtful shot-making. Set on a stretch of verdant grounds, the course presents an inviting yet exacting experience for golfers seeking a traditional, finely maintained golfing environment.

The course’s playability caters to a broad spectrum of skill levels. Well-proportioned fairways allow steadier drives for average players, while tighter landing zones and subtle green contours offer enough complexity to challenge lower handicaps. Golfers must consider the course’s natural undulations and occasional water hazards that come into play on select holes, providing both visual appeal and scoring challenges.

Players will note the seamless flow from one hole to the next, with several par 4s and par 5s requiring precise shot placement to navigate hazards and avoid deep bunkers guarding the greens. The green complexes reward careful approach shots but remain approachable for those willing to engage in a strategic round rather than relying solely on power.

Amenities at Plainfield Country Club underscore its status as a member-focused facility, featuring an elegant clubhouse that serves as a hub for social gatherings and post-round relaxation. The clubhouse offers dining options and a pro shop with quality equipment and apparel. Walking is encouraged and supported, with paths providing smooth transitions between holes without disrupting the game’s pace.

Typical seasonal conditions enhance the play, with spring and fall offering particularly favorable weather for outdoor activity. The club maintains high standards for course care year-round, ensuring consistent playing surfaces and a welcoming atmosphere.

For golfers planning a visit, understanding the private nature of Plainfield Country Club is essential—access is reserved for members and their guests. This exclusivity preserves the course’s condition and pace, making each round a refined experience. Practical advice includes wearing footwear suitable for walking and recognizing the importance of strategic play when the course is at its peak condition.

We stayed for a weekend getaway. When we checked in I asked for late check-out, which my status with the hotel allows, and was told they did not have the housekeeping staff to allow for it. The building our room was in was a good distance from the parking lot, and we were thankful there was no rain. Thankfully there was an elevator, which helped to unload a loading easier since we were on the second floor. We were woken up one morning by a noise coming from the wall behind the TV and we were afraid it was going to fall but discovered that wasn't it, and never figured it out. It kept practically making that noise throughout our stay. The bedroom was very small and there was limited space to move around freely. They did have a text system where they checked with us about our stay. On the night before we checked out, we received a text that we needed to place all the soiled towels in the tub and take the trash to the dumpster. I was shocked! This was not booked as an Airbnb but through the hotel website. I have never had a hotel ask me to take out my own trash. The location was a plus. It wasn't on a busy highway but rather located on a golf course, where we took advantage of the driving range after purchasing some clubs from the nearby Goodwill store. There was also a putt-putt course that was free to use, it wasn't as well kept as most, but it was free. There was an outdoor and indoor pool, but we did not get to use them.

Location to everything nearby was awesome. We especially loved the small commute to the Marshwalk restaurants! Room was nice. The cleaning crew must have left the door open and we had to kill many mosquitoes. Make sure to be quick when entering the main door each time!

Been coming here for a long time and have watched the place go downhill. Early on we stayed in two bedroom accommodations, once children were grown we started staying in one bedroom. The two bedroom are very spacious, but not so much for the one bedroom. We gave two stars because of what we once knew the place to be and the cleanliness of the room when we arrived. We had two bath towels we returned to front desk for exchange because of what looked like blood stains. The tile floor in kitchen area and bathroom was very sticky and black when wiped with paper towel, like it was mopped with dirty water. (House keeping came and addressed, but was still a little sticky). Paper towels that were left in the room had what appeared to be food splatter on them. Shower faucet had dark looking mold inside the handle. Air vent over couch look like it’s about to fall out of ceiling. Mid week house keeping came by with fresh bath towels and placed two knives and one bowl in dishwasher then turned on. After we arrived back in the room we realized the dishwasher had been running for approximately two hours, after investigation, we discovered it was stuck and adjusted knob to help it proceed. We have been told that remodeling has started, but from talking to other guest, several buildings are still “VERY DATED”. On a better note, the access to the State Park is very nice. It has a very nice beach with clean restrooms, and lots of safe parking.

We went to Myrtle Beach for a quick weekend back to school getaway for our kids. I requested an upstairs unit but when we arrived to check in their excuse was "there was a problem with the air in the upstairs unit" so we were given one on the bottom. Ok. No problem, so we thought. Ten minutes into entering the room we hear a full football/ soccer match happening above us. Called the front desk to complain about the NOISE... it stopped for a whole 8 minutes!!! We basically had to deal with it while this lady with her three boys from Virginia made our stay miserable while they were in their unit right above us between the hours of 6:45am to 10:30pm. So we tried to stay gone as much as possible. On check out the rude over weight manager with purple hair ( not shaming just so you'll know when you see her) told us that there was no noise ordinance during the day and that there was nothing she could do. Wish I knew before we booked. We HAD a history there but clearly the place has fallen on hard times not nearly as nice as years past. The units need upgrades and the jacuzzi in the indoor pool is gross!!! BEWARE ⚠️ AND BRING EARPLUGS!!!!!

My family and I stayed at this property late July 2021. We arrived at 2:30am after being on the road all day, to find the linen on the bed in the bedroom was soiled with a big yellowish stain. So, at this time of the morning instead of being able to enjoy the accommodations of a nice comfy bed, we were washing linen and cleaning this filthy place until 5:30am. The floors needed a serious deep cleansing or power wash. To add to insult when I contacted the manager later in the morning, he only took $50 off that night which we spent most of it cleaning. Then when we checked out, we found out they charge a cleaning fee per day for the rooms. When I addressed the fact that we were the ONLY ones that cleaned the facilities and inquired the reason for the cleaning fee charge, we were informed that’s what they do. In addition, the bed in the bedroom and a sink in it and was very uncomfortable and the sofa bed, you can feel every spring sticking in your body. Forget a good nights sleep. The walls are extremely thin, it sounds like the children running around in the next room will come through in a minute. We will absolutely NOT be back to this old dated and filthy place.

Dirty & LOUD! No sound proofing in these units, just a glorified motel. Don't waste your time or money on this cheap timeshare Fiasco.
