Plainfield Country Club

Edison, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

Plainfield Country Club features a classic 18-hole parkland course that blends strategic design with serene New Jersey scenery. Offering challenging yet accessible play, this private course is a refined destination for golfers seeking a thoughtful balance between precision and natural beauty.

Course Overview

Plainfield Country Club offers a refined golfing experience within Central New Jersey’s gently rolling landscape. This private 18-hole championship course invites players to engage with a classic parkland-style layout characterized by tree-lined fairways, strategic bunkering, and subtle elevation changes that influence shot selection. The course demands thoughtful play without overwhelming golfers, striking a balance that welcomes both seasoned low handicaps and more casual members seeking a rewarding round.

From the opening tee, players will notice how the layout encourages precision and course management. Well-maintained bentgrass greens present a variety of subtle breaks, testing putting skills while rewarding careful approach shots. Fairways are generous yet framed by mature hardwoods, creating a natural corridor that guides each hole’s intended strategy. Water hazards appear sparingly but with strategic placement, adding intrigue without compromising pace of play.

Visually, Plainfield Country Club reflects understated elegance rather than dramatic panoramas. The landscape shifts gracefully through clusters of hardwoods and open meadows that capture New Jersey’s seasonal colors vividly—from lush greens in summer to warm autumn hues. This subtle natural beauty enhances the experience without distracting from the game.

The club supports the course with excellent amenities. A spacious clubhouse provides comfortable dining and social spaces, while well-equipped practice facilities allow players to warm up or fine-tune their game. Walking is encouraged, with generally smooth terrain and paths that accommodate different paces. Members often appreciate the tranquil setting where competitive golf meets a relaxed atmosphere.

For golfers planning a visit, the course plays best in spring through early fall, when conditions are consistently firm and fast. A sensible golf bag selection includes mid-to-long irons for the variety of mid-range approach shots and wedges with reliable spin control to negotiate the nuanced greens. Whether tackling a friendly match or a serious tournament round, Plainfield Country Club offers a classic, thoughtful golfing journey tailored to skill and strategy alike.

Course Highlights

The course stands out for its strategic bunkering and subtly contoured greens that reward strategic shot placement. Mature hardwood trees frame fairways, lending to a classic parkland feel. Water hazards are thoughtfully integrated to challenge without disrupting pace of play. The clubhouse amenities complement the golf with quality dining and comprehensive practice facilities.

I'm not a member, but a neighbor who lives by the maintenance yard. Because I'm not a member, the club would not talk to me or return my call about their noisy racket over several days tearing down a metal shed. Oh, and one of their maintenance people almost ran over me one evening. They have a beautiful course but are not good neighbors with their holier than thow attitude.

It's one of my favorite places. Views of beautiful Monterey Bay and the Pacific Ocean! Whales and marine life! Hiking, Golf, and Biking with great views! The Best Clam Chowder! Wine tasting! Farmers markets! Fresh local strawberries, artichokes, and more! Shopping! It's a beautiful place with so many things to do!

Best golf course in the pebble area and yes it's better than Cypress, Spyglass, and Pebble unequivocally. Course is always in pristine shape, restaurant food is fantastic and at a ridiculously low price, and club house amenities are off the hook. Great practice facilities and you get two great courses both with spectacular views. This should be in the top 10 courses in the US.

Private - Membership only (or as a guest WITH a member) - great additional location to enjoy "as a visitor" during the AT&T Pro-Am Golf Tournament, or an event if invited... they throw some phenomenal Banquet Events, and have a few stunning locations to grab a drink, have a bite or enjoy a round of golf.... again, as a member or their guest......
