Plainfield Country Club

Edison, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

Plainfield Country Club is a private 18-hole parkland course located near Edison, NJ, offering a balanced challenge for golfers of all skill levels. Its mature tree-lined fairways and well-guarded greens create a classic and inviting setting framed by seasonal scenery.

Course Overview

Plainfield Country Club, located just minutes from Edison in Central New Jersey, offers a refined 18-hole experience designed primarily for members seeking a challenging yet approachable championship layout. This private course unfolds across gently rolling terrain characteristic of the region’s classic parkland style, where mature hardwoods and strategic bunkering shape a playing field that invites thoughtful shot-making rather than brute force.

The course balances strategic complexity with fairness, accommodating a broad range of handicaps. Moderately contoured fairways run alongside well-protected greens, encouraging accurate iron play and consistent approach shots. Natural elevation changes and tree-lined corridors introduce subtle demands on club selection and course management. Even so, multiple tee positions make it accessible without sacrificing the strategic integrity favored by lower handicappers.

Looking out from tee boxes and greens, the surrounding landscape provides seasonal notes to the experience. The verdant canopy offers shade in the warmer months, while fall’s changing foliage adds striking color contrasts against the immaculately maintained fairways. This quiet setting encourages focus and relaxation, a respite from urban bustle nearby.

The clubhouse at Plainfield Country Club serves as a distinguished gathering place with full dining amenities, locker rooms, and a pro shop stocked to meet members’ needs. Walking is encouraged here, with well-groomed cart paths and gentle slopes for those who prefer to move on foot; good walking shoes are recommended given the course’s size and subtle hills.

For those planning their visit, the course’s private nature requires membership or an invitation from a member to access tee times. Caddies are not mandatory but available on request, enhancing local knowledge and presentation. The dress code emphasizes traditional golf attire, reflecting the club’s classic personality.

Overall, Plainfield Country Club presents a polished blend of challenge and charm. Its mature parkland setting, thoughtful design, and welcoming member atmosphere make it a noteworthy destination within New Jersey’s competitive golf landscape.

Great course, beautiful views on every hole. Awesome experience! Only reason it doesn't get 5 stars is its a little odd at the price for 18 holes and a cart that you don't even get bottled waters. Not having a driving range is also a bummer. The Bag Piper in the evening was awesome as well!

This course was next level. Play early before the wind if you happen to have the choice. Fun track, will beat you up, but have a couple cold mugs and plant some seeds out there with the lads. Get Slotted and let um rip boys

I played this course on 12/31/24. It was carpath only so I decided to walk and it was beautiful and mesmerized by the views of the course. We were on the 18th hole when the bagpipes was played before the sunset.

It feels like playing golf in a desert oasis. It's easy to lose your ball because there's a lot of sand, but it's a really fun course. This is a course I love. If you time it right in the afternoon, you can meet a bagpiper and the burgers you eat at the cafe are really delicious. But be careful. A crow is watching your food. A highly recommended course that you must visit at least once.

My travel companion, and I had lunch here. Talk about a great view. Incredible! It’s definitely worth taking the 17 mile drive and stopping at the Pebble Beach golf course for lunch! I had a delicious salad, and the service was great!
