Plainfield Country Club

Edison, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

Plainfield Country Club offers an 18-hole private championship course set against the gentle rolling terrain of Central New Jersey. With a parkland-style layout and a focus on precision, it provides both challenge and accessibility for golfers who appreciate strategic play within a refined, traditional setting.

Course Overview

Situated just outside Edison in Central New Jersey, Plainfield Country Club presents an 18-hole championship course that blends strategic design with a quietly elegant setting. As a private, members-only facility, the course offers a classic parkland layout where mature trees frame fairways that demand thoughtful shot placement. The course stretches to approximately 6,900 yards with a par of 72, creating a challenge that rewards accuracy over raw power. Gentle rolling terrain provides subtle elevation changes that influence club selection and approach shots, especially around the well-guarded greens.

Walkers will appreciate the thoughtfully maintained pathways as well as the course's walkable scale, allowing for an enjoyable rhythm and close connection to the natural landscape. The setting is serene yet purposeful, with water hazards subtly integrated to test decision-making without overwhelming playability. This balance makes Plainfield accessible to a range of skill levels, though it leans toward players seeking to sharpen their strategic game, offering a fair but firm test.

The clubhouse complements the golf experience with traditional architecture and comfortable amenities, providing a welcoming space for members and their guests. Plainfield’s reputation rests on steady maintenance standards and a member community that values both competitive play and a relaxed pace. Caddies are part of the tradition here, enhancing the round by offering local course knowledge.

Visitors planning a round should take note of seasonal conditions common to New Jersey's climate, which can affect turf firmness and green speeds. Early spring and late fall rounds offer crisp air and a quieter course environment. Given the walking-friendly layout, sturdy golf shoes with good traction are advisable. Reservations are required and a member invitation is necessary to secure tee times.

With its balance of thoughtful design and classic parkland charm, Plainfield Country Club invites players who appreciate a course that demands focus without intimidation, along with a welcoming atmosphere away from the bustle of metropolitan life.

Course Highlights

Plainfield features a classic parkland design emphasizing strategic shot-making amid mature tree lines, gently rolling fairways, and water hazards that enhance both difficulty and aesthetic appeal. Caddie service is customary, enriching the playing experience with expert knowledge of the course’s subtle slopes and green complexes.

While at Putters & Gutters, our family of 5 decided to check out this place out. We had fun. This is a neat thing for Marble Falls to have. The only problems were that the system/ computer lost connection at one point and we had to completely start over. Also when we initially went up to the desk to get information to play, there was nobody there. We had to go hunt for an employee. Once we found one, she seemed irritated & sat at the counter playing on her phone.
