Plainfield Country Club

Edison, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

Plainfield Country Club offers an 18-hole private parkland course defined by precise shot-making and gentle terrain, set in the quiet greenery near Edison, New Jersey. Well-maintained fairways and accessible greens provide a rewarding test for players of varied skill levels.

Course Overview

Plainfield Country Club is a distinguished private 18-hole course situated just outside Edison in Central New Jersey. A traditional parkland layout defines its character, offering a blend of mature tree-lined fairways and strategically placed bunkers that challenge golfers to manage risk and reward on every hole. While the rolling terrain remains gentle, the course presents enough variety and well-thought-out contours to engage players across all skill levels. The routing flows naturally through a quiet landscape where fairways often frame pockets of woodland, creating visual corridors that both invite precision and protect errant shots.

Among its standout traits, the course is noted for its meticulous conditioning and classic design elements, which emphasize shot shaping and course management rather than brute distance. The greens are kept smooth but retain subtle breaks that encourage attentive putting. Standout holes test a player’s decision-making: several require thoughtful club selection to avoid deep bunkers that guard the landing areas, while others reward a carefully judged approach with wider, accessible greens.

The club's facilities enhance the playing experience with a well-appointed clubhouse that welcomes members to relax before or after rounds. The pace of play is typically unhurried but steady, lending itself well to enjoying the game without pressure. Friendly policies encourage walking, although carts are available for members' convenience, recognizing that footing and stamina matter when moving through finely kept turf and across gentle rises.

Plainfield Country Club caters primarily to members seeking a competitive yet approachable layout. Intermediate golfers will find ample opportunity to improve, while lower handicaps can explore the subtleties embedded within the course's strategic demands. Its location near Edison makes it accessible for those in the greater New Jersey region looking to experience golf where tradition meets thoughtful design. For those planning a visit, comfortable walking shoes and a steady short game will unlock the full enjoyment of each hole's unique rhythm and challenge.

Course Highlights

The course is distinguished by its classic parkland style with mature trees lining many fairways and bunkers serving as strategic hazards. Its design rewards thoughtful approach shots and precise putting. The layout combines forgiving holes with risk-reward challenges, balanced to accommodate a broad range of players. The clubhouse stands as a comfortable hub for members, complete with amenities that complement the playing experience.

Incredible course! I played the Mountain course and was amazed by the views of the valley and the course is very well maintained. The cart paths could use some work but definitely worth a round. Not too Challenging for the average player but definitely difficult with a lot of the slopes. Tons of fun!

Great staff, knowledgeable and friendly, beautiful course(s). Bring your clubs next time, do the Lake Placid trifecta- fly fishing, golf, and a mountain hike. Amazing.

Went here in May of 2019 and it was a very beautiful course! It’s quite hilly, so I would recommend that you use a cart. The design was very interesting and challenging. There was awesome scenery throughout the entire round and the grounds were pretty well kept even early in the year. This course was designed by the same man who designed Augusta National, where the Masters are held every year. Over all it’s a great course with a great clubhouse and I will definitely be back!

I had the oppurtunity to photograph a wedding here over the Summer and to say the views are gorgeous is an understatement! With a 180 view of the Adirondack mountains as the backdrop, it was amazing. I would not hesitate to recommend this venue, especially with the knowledgable and helpful staff.

Played the mountain course. Pros: very quiet and pace of play was never a problem, beautiful scenic views overlooking the mountains and the ski jump on nearly every hole, great greens Cons: very much a tourist vacation style golf course with $95 greens fees with tee boxes and fairways that left something to be desired. Fairways were very bumpy in conjunction with very old golf carts made for a very rough ride Nicely laid out course but be aware the the 9th hole doesn’t end at the club house and no bathrooms along the way

These are the courses to play while you’re in town! I’d say start with the Links Course but the Mountain Course is great as well.

A mower was very rude to a member of our party. When addressed to management we received quite a condescending response. The greens were very slow as well.
