Plainfield Country Club

Edison, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

Plainfield Country Club offers a private 18-hole parkland layout defined by mature trees, strategic bunkering, and approachable playability suited to all skill levels. Its classic setting just outside Edison provides a serene yet engaging golf experience enhanced by well-maintained facilities and a traditional clubhouse atmosphere.

Course Overview

Plainfield Country Club presents a classic 18-hole private layout that balances tradition with precise design, making it a distinguished fixture in Central New Jersey’s golf landscape. Located just outside Edison, this course tests accuracy and strategy amid a setting of mature hardwoods and gently rolling terrain. It offers a parkland style experience where tree-lined fairways funnel golfers toward challenging greens that demand thoughtful approach shots.

From the moment you step onto the fairway, the course reveals its subtle complexity. The routing unfolds with a rhythm that encourages players to move steadily through each hole while respecting the course’s strategic nuances. Elevation changes are modest yet effective in shaping shot selections. Bunkers are placed not merely to penalize but to influence decision-making, standing as silent guardians to each green complex. The course is designed to accommodate a broad range of skill levels: it remains approachable for mid- and high-handicap players yet offers enough variety and challenge to engage low handicappers seeking to sharpen their game.

Playability is enhanced by generally wide fairways that invite recovery and creativity, while the greens, varying in size and contour, provide a satisfying test for putters. Weather patterns typical of the region often influence play—the breeze threads through the tree canopy, affecting ball flight and club choice.

The clubhouse serves as a refined hub for members, with well-appointed amenities including dining options and locker rooms designed for comfort before and after rounds. Walking is encouraged, with paths well maintained and terrain friendly to those preferring to experience the course on foot. Membership is by invitation only, ensuring a private and focused golf environment.

One of the course’s notable traits is how the natural landscape has been respected, offering an experience where golf feels both deliberate and fluid. Golfers can expect a round rooted in tradition yet friendly to a range of playing styles, complemented by attentive service and understated elegance. The Plainfield Country Club stands as a place where the art of golf remains intact, inviting players to return time and time again to test their skills.

Course Highlights

The course showcases mature hardwoods lining fairways and greens, with bunkers strategically placed to shape shot selection rather than simply punish errors. Signature greens display subtle undulations, rewarding precision putts. The layout’s parkland character offers quiet beauty through changing seasons and a steady rhythm of holes that emphasize shotmaking over brute distance.

I absolutely love this course. I have played here probably around 25 times over the past few years. I played on Friday 6/20 and this was the first time I was disappointed. We checked in for a 6:08 am tee time. Once we teed off and got to the first green, we found that they had recently been punched. They were like a little beach with all the sand. There was nothing on the website about this. When we checked in, no one said anything. The starter didn’t say anything either. On top of this, there was not a discounted rate. We payed almost $80 for the round. We played Desert Willows in the afternoon the same day and only paid $70 for a course in excellent shape. Also, we have always bought the deal they have on Underpar. Was a GREAT value! This year they changed it to only after 10 am on a Friday. No one is going to play at 10 am and then play a second round for free at that time in the summer. I will still keep coming back here, but this was the first time I was disappointed.

Generally well-kept course. Can feel quite crowded at times. Good option for the area, though I wouldn't travel here just to play Cimarron Golf Resort.

Great practice area. Nice staff. Pebble course was in really rough shape. Greens were brutal. Tee boxes were bad at best.

Came for the restaurant but it was closed on July fourth. On the map it says it’s opened.

Positives: Love both courses, staff is generally great, availability for tee times good, Players club membership is total bargain, grab them while you can, and notwithstanding what i will say below, will be playing here for next few years, but selectively on the Pebble. Negatives: 8 minute tee time gaps for a PAR 3 COURSE!!! If you are a regular golfer on full size courses, you know that the biggest backups occur on par 3's. When you have a 3 or 4'some, two or more missing the green, a par 3 hole is going to take AT LEAST 10 minutes, if not 12 or more, so, doing the math, by mid-day, gridlock... Staff doesn't care, because they can't really move this along like when there is slow play, this isn't slow, this is just not enough time between groups, plus you get a lot more, shall we say, less experienced folks, on a par 3 course. Won't be back on this course during season, other than early day. I left today after it taking over 1.5 hours to play 7 holes on a par 3 course... waiting 7-12 minutes on each tee box. Again, great course, love it, but not at par 72 playing times.

Played the Pebble and Boulder course. We bought coupons off of under par.com. Saved a lot of money doing this. Both courses are in great condition. The starting Marshall at Pebble was very friendly and made for a nice start to the day!
