Split Rock Golf Course & Sunset Green Restaurant & Bar

Edison, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

Split Rock Golf Course offers an engaging mountain-style layout carved through the Poconos’ natural terrain. With challenging elevation changes, strategically placed hazards, and a welcoming clubhouse featuring the Sunset Green Restaurant & Bar, it’s an adventure for golfers seeking a thoughtful and scenic round.

Course Overview

Split Rock Golf Course in Lake Harmony, Pennsylvania, offers an exhilarating test of golf amid the rolling terrain of the Pocono Mountains. This 18-hole course challenges players with dramatic elevation changes that shape each hole into a strategic puzzle requiring careful shot placement. The layout is best described as a mountain-style design where fairways weave through wooded corridors and natural hazards, demanding both precision and patience. Golfers should anticipate several blind shots and fairway-crossing hazards that elevate the level of engagement throughout the round.

Playing from the blue tees, the course plays to a challenging length that rewards conservative decisions and punishes errant drives. The par-3s stand out with uphill climbs exceeding 50 vertical feet, particularly a demanding 210-yard hole that leaves little room for error besides a narrow fairway hugging the left side. These features make Split Rock a fitting venue for players who enjoy a competitive yet fair test.

Fairways offer a mix of firm lies and areas where recent weather has softened the turf, slowing shot rollout and requiring thoughtful club selection, especially after rainfall. Bunkers frame the greens and fairways but bear signs of wear that add character without overwhelming playability. The greens themselves roll true but tend to be slower during wetter conditions, encouraging a tactical approach rather than aggressive putting.

The pace of play remains steady, aided by cart paths that help navigate the course’s length and substantial elevation changes, though walking is limited by the terrain. The clubhouse provides a welcoming atmosphere, complete with Sunset Green Restaurant & Bar, praised for its quality food and attentive service—a perfect spot to reflect on the round while enjoying panoramic views.

Split Rock balances raw mountain golf with approachable usability for mid-to-low handicappers seeking a genuine challenge. Ample parking, friendly staff, and scenic vistas create a memorable golf experience that rewards both skill and thoughtful course management. Those venturing here should come prepared with extra golf balls, an appetite for strategic golf, and a readiness for an invigorating day in the Poconos.

9/2024 Played here on Labor Day weekend afternoon. It wasn't too crowded and the pace of play was good. Very good conditions overall. Tees were a little chewed up but not overwhelming . We played the blues. Greens held well but that might be because it poured in the morning and we played in the afternoon. But overall very good condition with the greens and they rolled fairly quickly. Not slow. Fairways were good. Some bunkers needed some TLC with a lot of erosion and so forth. Some weeds in the bunkers. It's not a course to walk there's a lot of distance traveling on cart paths between the holes so you're probably not going to be walking. This type of golf is not for the weak of heart. It's definitely placement golf with hazards that cross the fairway. If you're off the fairway too much you're pretty much in heavy brush and you're going to lose your ball. However, you will find tons of other balls! Our group went through many many many balls! There are some blind shots and the par-3s from the blue tees were extremely challenging. One was 210 up hill 50 vertical feet at least. Nowhere to bail except a narrow fairway on left side of green. Awesome though! This is one of the toughest courses I've ever played. Course rating from the blacks was 77 I believe? Blue tees were rated at 73.5 I think? Definitely a challenge. Some beautiful views await. Bring plenty of balls.

Course is in decent shape for so early in the year. Sand traps were a little flooded from all the recent rain and it was cart path only (definitely needed on some holes but 90° would have been fine on most others). Lot of plugs all over too. Lot of obstacles making it a decently challenging course. Staff was friendly and there were two cute dogs in the clubhouse, which is always a plus. They desperately need ball washers on more holes. There was a half-broken one on 13 and that was it. Overall, great time and I'll be back this season.

We had my husband's celebration of Life on 05/ 31/ 25 at the Sunset Green restaurant. Everyone there was so impressed by the delicious food. and the service. The restaurant looked beautiful and they even had centerpieces on the tables. The owners were very accomadating and made sure everything was perfect. It was my husband's favorite restaurant when he was alive and after the meal' an eagle flew in the sky and we saw it through the beautiful windows. A perfect ending to a memorable day. Spectacular layout and views. If you normally play the blue tees, consider the white tees here . So many heroic shots needed. The large amount of recent rain has greatly affected the manicuring and cutting of the fairways and greens, so expect less roll and inconsistent putting. Incredible elevation changes on the course. You will get a workout walking from the greens to your cart as almost every hole is an uphill walk to where you park near the greens. Staff is super pleasant. Would love to come back when the greens are putting at normal speed.

My golf buddies and I played here today. The course is in very nice shape considering all the rain lately. The greens are still a bit slow. The course is challenging but very playable. Beautiful views, friendly staff and good food! It's worth the hour + drive for us to play there!

A very huge thank you to Jordyn! The meal was fantastic! The fish, the scallops, the drinks, and the very tasty ice cream Sunday were all perfect. Shoutout to the chef. We’re regulars here and couldn’t be happier with the clubhouse. Many thanks!! 😎

Came here for my bachelor party last week and the course itself was absolutely incredible. The views were stunning, the greens rolled true, and teeing off into the valley on the 10th hole was a highlight. Where the 2-star rating comes in is the treatment we received from the younger staff. The starter was excellent, he made sure our group of 13 teed off smoothly and on time. However, we were repeatedly approached by younger staff accusing us of slow play, which felt excessive and misplaced. We originally wanted to play a team scramble (two teams playing against each other), but we were told that format would affect pace of play, which we completely understood. So we adjusted and played in regular groups of 3/4, still in scramble format, to keep things moving. Despite that, multiple younger staff members continued to question us, asking if we were skipping holes or paired with other groups, disrupting our round and giving the impression we were doing something wrong. We were also repeatedly checked about bringing outside alcohol onto the course, even though we had already addressed that with staff at the start of the round. It felt unprofessional and distracted from an experience we had spent a lot of time and effort planning. We also heard from a group behind us—who was trying to play through—that their tee time had been moved up by 15 minutes, which added to the confusion and contributed to the overall sense of disorganization. Eventually, an adult staff member approached us on the 13th hole and apologized, explaining that a separate bachelor party (a group of 20) was actually causing the course-wide slowdown. He mentioned that the group had been removed from the course, which helped clarify the situation, but by that point, the damage to our experience had already been done. The course itself is truly exceptional—beautifully maintained, with incredible views and a layout that’s both fun and challenging. It’s absolutely worth playing. That said, for a course of this caliber, I’d strongly recommend having more experienced staff handle pace-of-play or etiquette issues. Between the confusion with adjusted tee times and younger staff making repeated, misplaced accusations, the experience felt more stressful than it should have. With better communication and oversight, this easily could have been a five-star day.
