Plainfield Country Club

Edison, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

Plainfield Country Club offers a refined private golf experience with a classic parkland layout. Its 18 challenging holes combine mature tree-lined fairways and strategic water hazards, delivering a course that welcomes golfers of varying skill levels while maintaining championship caliber play.

Course Overview

Located just outside Edison in Central New Jersey, Plainfield Country Club is a private, 18-hole championship course known for its classic parkland layout and carefully maintained playing conditions. The course extends over approximately 6,800 yards with a par set at 72, offering a balanced challenge that appeals to a broad range of golfers. Mature trees frame fairways and greens, creating a serene atmosphere that complements the strategic design elements throughout. Water hazards and sand bunkers punctuate the landscape, presenting risk-reward opportunities without overwhelming players of moderate ability.

Plainfield Country Club’s terrain is gently rolling, allowing for elevation changes that influence shot selection and visual perspectives. The front nine moves steadily through tree-lined corridors, increasing in difficulty as golfers approach the signature par-4 9th hole, which demands precise positioning to avoid water and bunkers guarding the green. The back nine shifts the emphasis slightly with several shorter par-3s that test accuracy and touch around the greens. Wind can play a subtle role, especially on the final holes, encouraging players to adjust their strategies thoughtfully.

The club’s facilities reflect its long-standing reputation, featuring a well-appointed clubhouse that accommodates social gatherings and post-round relaxation. While the course is designed primarily for members, guests enjoy a variety of amenities, including practice ranges and short-game areas that promote skill development. The walkability of the course is notable; well-kept paths and moderate slopes make traversing enjoyable for players choosing to walk rather than ride.

Plainfield Country Club strikes a careful balance between classic golf tradition and accessible playability. It provides a test for seasoned players through well-positioned hazards and undulating greens, yet remains welcoming for those seeking to refine their skills or enjoy a leisurely round. Any visit promises quiet concentration amid natural surroundings paired with the subtle pressures and pleasures that championship golf courses are known to deliver.

Course Highlights

Plainfield Country Club showcases a traditional parkland design with mature hardwoods lining the fairways and carefully placed bunkers that demand strategic play. The par-4 9th hole challenges golfers with water hazards guarding the approach, making it a memorable and demanding test. Elevated greens and subtle elevation changes throughout promote thoughtful shot execution, rewarding accuracy and course management.

Best Simulators I have ever played on, especially the putting! Great food, drink and environment for sure! X-Golf also allowed my son's baseball team to host a fundraiser there and it was a huge success! Thanks to the team at X-Golf for helping our team raise some much needed funds for the season!

Painfully understaffed and inconsistent application of rules. I'll keep it brief, every time I have gone to xgolf, I have got on the sim 5-10 minutes late due to the group ahead of us closing up a hole. Today we booked 2 hours and got our usually 5-10 minutes of waiting taken of the front end. Next we had a sim issue that needed resolved by staff - only 1 problem, there is literally 1 employee working. Working the kitchen, bar and troubleshooting issues was just not possible. We don't see the employee for 15 minutes while I assume he was making some food. Finally we get our issue resolved and resume play, we aren't getting drinks refilled with any consistency, but it's one employee so whatever. Promptly at what would have been our 2 hour reservation we are told to that we cannot even finish our hole because the next group is ready. We checked in before our round start time and were still left to wait. When we explained our late start and how long the mechanical issue took to be resolved we were told that on the web site the policy is 15 minutes of maintenance per hour and he was fully going to enforce that. Complete joke, lost any interest in returning. We've lost probably a couple hours waiting for sims at this place, just to be unable to finish a hole after a reservation with a lot of lost time. We had already paid and no compensation was offered. I would recommend finding somewhere else to go or open your own because I think there is plenty of room for improvement in the area!

Went to XGolf on a whim for some winter simulator golf with a friend. As walk-ins, we were disheartened to see all of the Sims were occupied. The bartender assured us the wait was short enough, so we waited. The bar was good, having a good selection, and we got to a simulator after about 10-15 minutes. Was an excellent experience, and the food was very good. A+ in my book. Will return.
