Course Overview

Plainfield Country Club offers a classic golfing experience steeped in tradition and refined challenge. This private, 18-hole course located just outside Edison, New Jersey, showcases parkland-style routing, framed by mature trees and gently rolling terrain that shapes a game rewarding thoughtful shotmaking. The layout balances strategic bunkering and subtly contoured greens with fairways wide enough to encourage an aggressive approach, making it inviting yet exacting across various skill levels.

From the first tee, players encounter a course that tests precision without demanding overpowering distance, appealing to dedicated amateurs and seasoned players alike. The course’s par and yardage present a fair but demanding platform - requiring accuracy off the tee and finesse on approach shots. Traditional in its design ethos, Plainfield Country Club emphasizes shot placement to navigate bunkers positioned to guard greens and water hazards that come into play on several holes, demanding a steady nerve and smooth rhythm.

Surrounding the layout, the mature tree line offers an intimate setting, buffering the course from neighboring developments and allowing a calm focus on the round. Seasonal changes paint the course with distinct palettes, from vibrant greens in spring and summer to soft browns and deep reds in autumn. This dynamic backdrop enhances the sense of connection between player and landscape throughout any visit.

The club’s amenities extend beyond the fairways, with a well-appointed clubhouse providing members a comfortable space for relaxation and socializing after a round. Modern practice facilities support serious preparation, while attentive staff and a welcoming environment ensure a seamless experience.

Walking the course reveals a pace of play well-suited for members who appreciate a thoughtful round, and the terrain is manageable with quality footwear. While the club holds firm to traditional member-only access, the approachability of the course invites players who seek a championship caliber day without undue intimidation. Whether honing skills or enjoying a leisurely match, Plainfield Country Club delivers a measured challenge within a distinguished setting, capturing the enduring spirit of Central New Jersey golf.

4.5 stars. Attended a wedding here this month. Beautiful views and right by the water! Staff are utmost accommodating, friendly, attentive. Food was great as well! The entrance of the place is lovely, my only complaint are the low ceilings in the ballroom/banquet area.

I had a chance to play the course here recently and it was after the Sony Open recently but still in immaculate condition! The clubhouse is across the street and has a real classy Hawaiian vibe with large windows in the dining halls facing the ocean. Besides the lobby and dining room, I didn’t see much else but it was still very nice inside. It’s cool to see past PGA champions on the walls as well. Lots of recent awards posted as well. Course isn’t very memorable but it’s a can’t miss if you have the chance. 🤙🏼

Fantastic food and service. Beautiful views of the ocean. Attended a graduation party here and everything I ate was fantastic. The fresh sushi bar was amazing too.

Please Read I was staying at a near by resort that the property was adjacent to this golf course. I went to purchase a golf hat and was denied service. Although there was a note on the door that said members only, I mistakenly took that as referring to playing a round of golf. If you’re not a member, you can’t buy anything - only during the Sony Open. This golf course has the privilege and benefits thereof of hosting a PGA sanctioned event. It therefore represents the PGA of America not only during the Sony Open but everyday after this event. This was poorly done. I refuse to give a 1 star based on a 5 minute visit as that is not fair to the employees and members of this golf course. It’s a beautiful place. The leadership and PGA of America should take not though.

Wow beautiful country club, and their kitchen staff can whip up some amazing food - probably the best event buffet that I've ever had coz I can't remember any other time where I was impressed by event buffet food... Wonton salad, leafy green salad with red radish, salmon with wasabi mayo, beef, roasted potatoes, vegetarian chow mein, edamame seaweed quinoa salad.... Not to mention the amazing lilikoi cheesecake, flourless chocolate cake and bread pudding... I didn't take a photo coz that'd be a little weird to me since it's not an actual restaurant. But they might as well just open a real restaurant coz more people gotta try their food. But yeah back to their interior. It's classy, sophisticated and welcoming. The view with floor to ceiling glass windows is just impeccable. The staff were also friendly. Bathrooms were clean and well stocked with Japanese bidet and warm toilet seats. We were fortunate enough to experience the country club. Drove past this few times heading to kahala hotel, and finally got to see how it's like inside and taste their food!
