I often find myself reflecting on experiences not only from a personal standpoint but also through the lens of hospitality, fairness, and human dignity. For years, Eagle Ridge Resort in Galena had been a place I looked forward to visiting. The beautiful landscape and serene setting have always made it a compelling destination during my trips to the area. Recently, I finally had the chance to stay at Eagle Ridge. While the location and accommodations were acceptable, I was deeply disappointed by the quality of service and the inconsistency in how guests were treated. Upon check-in, I observed a noticeable disparity in how guests were welcomed. While others received warm explanations about the resort’s amenities, activities, and offerings, I was handed a sheet of paper with no greeting or explanation—just a flat question: “How many keys?” It was only after hearing the more detailed and welcoming exchanges at the front desk with other guests that I realized what had been omitted in my own experience. I tried to give the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps the paper contained everything I needed. But hospitality isn’t just about providing information—it’s about the manner in which it is offered. The tone and attitude of staff members varied widely. While some were polite, others came across as condescending or dismissive, even questioning me in a way that felt more like an interrogation than a gesture of service. As someone who often works late into the night while staying at hotels, I spent time in the lounge area around midnight. This is often when a hotel’s true ethos becomes evident. Unfortunately, it was not a peaceful or professional environment. Staff members spoke loudly, slammed doors near guests, and seemed oblivious to those around them. It left the impression that courtesy and awareness of guests’ presence were not priorities. One of the deeper concerns I left with was how different guests appeared to be treated based on appearance or perceived status. A true culture of hospitality welcomes every guest equally—regardless of background, attire, or demeanor. The quiet guest should be valued no less than the outspoken one. I hope this resort will take seriously the opportunity to train its staff in a service mindset rooted in attentiveness, respect, and consistency. It’s in the small gestures—eye contact, tone of voice, thoughtful explanation—that a place becomes more than a building. It becomes a refuge. Unfortunately, this stay did not reflect the excellence I had hoped for. I write this not with bitterness, but with the hope that Eagle Ridge might consider how its service can better embody the inclusive spirit that hospitality should reflect at its best

I understand that businesses need to have cancellation policies in place to protect their bottom line, but also think there are appropriate times for leniency and accomodation. We had an overnight stay and round of golf booked using a gift card we purchased through a charity auction supporting the Alzheimer’s Association, as well as a second room and round we paid for out of pocket. A week before the stay, we had a death in the family, creating an overlap on the calendar between our stay and the funeral/burial. When I called Eagle Ridge, they were unwilling to extend the Alzheimer’s Association charity gift card, so we could use it on a later visit, and also refused to offer a refund on the additional purchased lodging and golf. The lack of understanding and empathy shown by Eagle Ridge was extremely disappointing, especially coming from an establishment that claims to “… do everything we can to be sure we support your family.”

Beautiful resort, and an extra special shout-out to Megan at reception! After we experienced an issue with our villa, Megan went above and beyond to ensure that our stay was as comfortable as possible. 10/10 would absolutely book a future trip here!

I'm at a "Hot Air Balloon Festival". There are seemingly a couple thousand people at the event. There are three parking lots each running one shuttle bus. No one directing parking. When we finally got on the bus after about an hour of standing in a field, the people at the end of the line would have had about a three hour wait. We arrived, great! But the only way to buy anything at this place is to wait in line to buy tickets. No cash accepted for food or drink. ...and guess what, there is one table to buy tickets. What a joke .

Excitement toward treating family to a "resort" experience fell flat. 1. Folks in front of and behind me in line received early check-in; we did not. Was told I would receive a text when our room was ready; did not. 2. Was placed in rooms on second floor. No working elevator. While they sent a lovely man to help with luggage, he was older than the seniors checking in and tried to be helpful lugging baggage up the stairs. 3. As we were seated for dinner, there was a power outage. It was suggested we go into the basement/lowest level. Lowest level was dark, windowless, and damp from flooding the night before. There were multiple fan cords all over the damp, drk and musty smelling floor. We were left to stand in this area. Except for patrons that had cell phones, we were in the dark. 4. Once given the all clear to leave the basement, there were no updates as to when power might be expected to return. As guests filled the lobby area, alcoholic beverages were offered, FOR A FEE, but no other compensatory food or drink was offered. As the sun started to set, I asked what plans they had for guests, who were unsure if even their key cards would work without power. It was suggested we return to our rooms before the sun set completely as it would be too dark/unsafe to navigate the property. I asked MULTIPLE times about flashlights or other safety measures; I received a lot of uncaring shoulder shrugs. 5. Guests are told that NO housekeeping would be provided during our stay. If we wanted something we would need to contact the lobby. However, when asking for needed items, it felt as if guests were interfering/interrupting staff conversations among each other. 6. Al, an older staff member who seemingly did everything from luggage handling to shuttle driving, was the highlight of the trip. A lovely man. 7. Sunday brunch was "meh" at best. We left unimpressed, deflated from a disappointing experience. for the money I would not recommend at all.

Beautiful view out our courtyard room to Galena Lake. Room was comfy, clean, quiet. Our fave moments -- sitting on patio early AM, coffee in hand, watching the many birds. Phone app identified mockingbird, summer tanager, cedar waxwing, and others. We would stay again. Ps, my husband enjoyed their golf course ⛳ :-)

I have never left an review before but I fell I needed to for this place! Eagle Ridge is an over priced Motel at best. If you are looking for a high end resort experience look elsewhere. All that is offered at Eagle Ridge is golf. Everything else is owned by an HOA. The Spa looked newish but that main lodge should just be torn down. While sitting in the lobby a mouse ran between my legs! Not to mention an raccoon that welcome us when we walked up to the main entrance!
