Plainfield Country Club

Edison, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

Plainfield Country Club presents an 18-hole private championship course set in the woodlands near Edison, New Jersey. This parkland layout combines thoughtful strategic elements with approachable fairways, offering a challenging and enjoyable round for a broad range of golfers.

Course Overview

Plainfield Country Club offers a distinguished private golf experience situated just outside Edison, New Jersey, blending traditional championship design with a welcoming atmosphere for players who seek a classic parkland layout. This 18-hole course unfolds within gently rolling terrain, framed by mature hardwoods and well-maintained fairways that challenge shot-making without overwhelming less experienced golfers.

The course’s layout emphasizes strategic play, with thoughtfully placed bunkers and subtle elevation changes that reward accuracy and course management. Each hole presents its own character, yet the greens stand out for their consistent speed and receptive surfaces, making approach shots and putting a true test of precision. The setting, marked by the natural New Jersey woodland, offers seasonal shifts that alter play dynamics and enhance the visual appeal through spring blooms or autumn colors.

Plainfield Country Club’s design is accessible but carries enough complexity to engage low-handicap players. Wide fairways afford some margin for error, though tight landing areas around key greens demand careful club selection. Water hazards come into play on select holes, injecting a risk-reward element without penalizing conservative play. The club’s emphasis on preserving a pace of play invites golfers of varying skill levels to find rhythm and enjoyment throughout their round.

Complementing the golf, the club features a well-appointed clubhouse that acts as a social hub for members, offering dining, locker rooms, and event spaces. With its focus on a traditional, member-centered golf environment, Plainfield Country Club balances challenge and playability in a setting that encourages both competitive rounds and relaxed outings alike.

Golfers visiting should come prepared for walking terrain that is manageable but benefits from sturdy footwear, especially in wet conditions. The course plays at a total yardage that allows for a full test without overextending, making it an inviting stop for those traveling through Central New Jersey seeking a meticulously maintained, private championship golf experience.

Course Highlights

The course is distinguished by its classic parkland style with mature woodlands bordering wide fairways, strategic bunkering, and varied green complexes. Select holes feature subtle elevation changes and water hazards that require thoughtful play. The clubhouse environment supports a robust member community with dining and social amenities.

Went out to take my son, father-in-law, and nephew for a fun round of golf. This was my nephews (13) first-time golfing and my sons (12) first-time using his new clubs. The morning started off well. We were going slow so we could get some good training in with the kids and letting groups pass us as they caught up to us. About hole 5 or 6, the range officer came by and told us there were 5 groups of scratch golfers behind us and to be polite and let them play through. He kind of gave me the impression that the "scratch" golfers were more important than us, and since we weren't "regulars" or members, we were just in the way. The range officer returned 3 times to make sure the privileged members were not waiting for us. At one point, we let the "scratch" golfers play through, and it was a man and his high school-aged son moving at the same pace or slower than we were. We actually ended up waiting on them for a while. At the tee box for the 9th hole, we decided we had enough with the heat, forced fast pace, and the unwelcoming vibe we kept getting from the employees that we called it quits. We went to the pro shop to see about a refund for the back 9 we didn't play, but they said they could only give us a rain check voucher that expires in 3 months. I explained that i was active duty military, not stationed in the state, and was on leave. I told her we wouldn't be back for at least 6 months, but it didn't matter. She refused to give any refund for me and my son, so we lost out on the cost of the back 9 holes. Bottom line, we felt unwelcomed and discriminated against since we weren't in the "scratch" golfer click or country club members. We didn't really have a fun time after the range officer started rushing us. The fact that they would not make an exception for my military service and refund the cost of the back 9 is unfortunate.

Great place gonna be real hard to find a place this nice for the price. Even better if you become a member which is also very reasonable compared to many others. I've now been enjoying this place/course for a couple years they got some things to fix still but overall it's nice and getting better over time 👍🏻

Great golf course and very friendly staff. I returned my cart, and I unknowingly left my range finder attached to my cart. As I was about to pull out to leave, a young man who worked there was running to my truck with my range finder in hand and returned it to me. Very thankful for that considering I just bought that range finder. I will definitely be a life long customer here.
