Virtues Golf Club

Edison, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

Plainfield Country Club presents a classic 18-hole parkland course that challenges players with its thoughtfully routed fairways and finely contoured greens. Set within a serene landscape near Edison, New Jersey, it offers a private golf experience blending tradition with a welcoming atmosphere for golfers seeking a refined yet accessible round.

Course Overview

Virtues Golf Club, situated in the rolling countryside of Nashport, Ohio, offers an 18-hole championship experience that balances natural beauty with strategic design. This public course, acclaimed for its engaging layout, weaves through a landscape defined by gentle elevation changes and mature woodlands, providing a distinct departure from typical Ohio golf settings. The course’s routing flows seamlessly, combining forest-lined fairways with sweeping vistas of open farmland, inviting players to remain thoughtful and measured throughout their round.

The topography at Virtues shapes a parkland-style golf course with notable variety in hole design. Elevation shifts subtly challenge club selection and shot trajectory, while the green complexes demand precision with undulations that reward careful reading. Bunkers, placed both to protect and to provoke risk-reward decisions, guard greens and tee boxes alike. The putting surfaces, sculpted under Art Hills’ architectural influence, encourage creative shot-making and variety. Though the greens are typically firm and fast, recent observations indicate conditions may vary slightly, with some rounds featuring softer turf that tempers the course’s full challenge.

Designed to welcome players of all skill levels, Virtues balances strategic interest with approachable playability. Amateurs and low handicappers alike will find holes that test accuracy without overwhelming frustration. The practice facilities support warm-ups and skill refinement, including a driving range and putting areas that add value to the overall visit.

The clubhouse, positioned high above the course, offers panoramic views of the property and countryside beyond. Dining here combines rustic charm with modern comfort, where players can reflect on their round and enjoy well-prepared menu options at reasonable prices. Staff are known for their friendliness and professionalism, creating an inviting atmosphere.

Visitors planning a day trip will appreciate the absence of additional rider fees and the walking-friendly layout, which features well-maintained cart paths and varied terrain. Virtues Golf Club may sit just outside main Ohio urban centers, but its reputation as a top-ranked course reflects its ability to transport players into a memorable and engaging golf setting unlike many in the region.

We were looking for a top course that could be a day trip from Cincinnati and decided the 2.5 hr to Virtues was the winner. To say we had an amazing day is an understatement! As a rider for many public courses, I was pleased to learn there was no additional charge for me to be on the course! My golfer enjoyed the bag of practice balls provided and the great practice facility to warm up on. We will definitely be back to Virtues!

Played in middle of August 2024. Layout is incredible. Great views, lots of elevation changes, and routing mixed throughout the forest and countryside. Really doesn’t feel like you’re in Ohio. The layout is a 10/10 and is likely why the course is rated top 100 by Golf Digest. Considering its reputation, I thought the conditions were good, but not immaculate - I’d give it more like a 7 or 8 out of 10. Tee boxes were in great shape, but there was lots of grass clippings in the fairway on certain holes. They keep the course pretty soft. Greens weren’t slow, but weren’t as fast as I would expect for an Art Hills course. The green complexes are awesome, but the greens weren’t firm/fast enough to be able to use the slopes as much as they are probably designed for. Bunkers were groomed, and consistent. The price is good for getting to play a course of this reputation. We did not eat at the restaurant, but it sat on top of the hill, with great views. Menu looked reasonably priced, with lots of good options. Overall probably a 4.5 out of 5. Worth the trip, even though it’s sort of out in the middle of nowhere.

Impeccable in all aspects Beautiful and very challenging! Loved it! Definitely will be back!!!! Played again this year! Exceptional condition of tees, fairways and greens! The greens were lighting fast though and the pin placement seemed like Sunday tournament positions...brutal if you are on wrong side of hole!! The staff was great! Professional and very friendly! Will definitely come back next year!

Beautiful layout. Greens were a bit beat up when we went on 7/12. Could use a little work.
