Plainfield Country Club

Edison, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

Plainfield Country Club presents an 18-hole championship parkland course in Central New Jersey, blending strategic play with refined setting. The private layout welcomes golfers of varying skill with a focus on shot precision and inviting terrain framed by mature trees and water features.

Course Overview

Located just outside Edison in Central New Jersey, Plainfield Country Club offers discerning golfers an exclusive, impeccably maintained private setting steeped in classic parkland style. This 18-hole championship layout extends over approximately 6,800 yards of thoughtfully contoured terrain that combines mature trees, gently rolling fairways, and well-placed bunkers that challenge strategy without overwhelming. The course unfolds across a predominantly flat to gently undulating landscape, where water hazards draw the eye and risk-reward opportunities shape each round.

The approach to each hole emphasizes shot placement and course management, rewarding accuracy from tee to green. The greens, typically medium-sized and subtly undulating, demand precision on the approach and skillful touch with the putter. While the challenge suits experienced players seeking a thorough test of their game, Plainfield maintains an approachable design that encourages engagement for mid and higher handicappers. The well-groomed fairways and defined landing areas offer enough margin for comfort, making it an inviting venue for members whose abilities span a broad spectrum.

Beyond the fairways, the setting reflects understated elegance, with mature hardwoods lining key holes and water features that come into play strategically rather than conspicuously. The clubhouse serves as a refined social hub, with gracious amenities including dining spaces and locker rooms catering to members’ comfort. Walking is welcomed and recommended to fully appreciate the course’s calm yet purposeful flow; players are advised to wear supportive footwear appropriate for variable spring-to-fall conditions.

As a private club, access requires membership or invitation, ensuring an unhurried pace and a reserved atmosphere. Seasonal care keeps the turf in peak condition through the spring and fall months, with occasional summer heat presenting the usual challenges for maintenance teams.

Plainfield Country Club delivers a course experience that balances tradition, challenge, and playability in the heart of New Jersey. Its carefully considered layout and setting reward thoughtful play, making it a destination for those seeking a classic golf round marked by quiet focus rather than theatrics. Whether preparing for a competitive match or a relaxed afternoon, the course invites players to engage fully with every shot and subtler elements the landscape offers.

Was in the area and decided to take a drive out to Pronghorn. We stayed here a number of years ago when it first opened. It is amazing to see how it has developed. There is now a hotel, spa, fitness center and more. Everything here is top notch.

Played few years ago and it was amazing but this time it was a little disappointing. Dropped bags and it took more than 10 mins to get them to the range when we could have gone straight there. Almost no balls on the range once we got started, carts weren't available until hole 2, drink station wasn't open because the poor girl had to leave to restock supplies and a few greens were in terrible condition. Everyone working was nice but didn't seem to have many answers. Very unorganized IMO and definitely not worth $250, $150 maybe.

Just didn't seem very inviting. No good signage... had to hunt for check in... for golf shop. No smiles, except for the starter on #1, he was cool. Had great time golfing. Great views and tremendous placements.

Tee times are spaced just 10 minutes apart and no effort by the staff is made to enforce pace of play. We played 9 holes in 3 hours and quit. Staff was apathetic to the pace. Facility is in great shape, but their unwillingness to enforce pace of play standards ruined the experience.

What a great resort golf course, fairways were in excellent condition, the greens seemed to have some minor issues, but still good. Fantastic views and provides sufficient challenges. Unfortunately, there are more houses being built, which means it will loose some of its natural feel. Beautiful club house! The practice facilities are also top notch!
