Plainfield Country Club presents an 18-hole private championship course defined by classic parkland styling and strategic playability. With mature tree-lined fairways and receptive greens, the course offers a thoughtful challenge that suits players across skill levels near Edison, New Jersey.

Course Overview

Plainfield Country Club offers an 18-hole private championship course that challenges golfers with its classic parkland style layout and classic, mature setting. The course unfolds through gently rolling terrain dotted with mature hardwoods and well-established landscaping that frames each fairway, creating a sense of privacy and focus on the shot at hand. With a total yardage stretching over 7,000 yards from the back tees and a par of 72, it strikes a balance between strategic variety and an open, playable flow that suits a range of skill levels.

The design promotes thoughtful course management rather than brute strength. Fairways demand precision, rewarded with receptive greens that hold approach shots well. Bunkers are positioned not just as obstacles, but as strategic features guarding key landing zones and pin placements. Water hazards come into play selectively, adding a subtle layer of challenge rather than dominating the holes. The course’s mature tree lines offer both shelter and visual cues, helping players measure risk and reward over every shot.

Set in Central New Jersey, the club’s location near Edison allows for convenient access without sacrificing the quiet atmosphere expected from a private venue. The main clubhouse offers well-maintained facilities including a pro shop and dining options, all geared toward member comfort. Walking is encouraged, with relatively flat terrain and well-kept cart paths supporting players who prefer a traditional pace of play.

Plainfield Country Club’s straightforward routing remains classic rather than flashy, but tournament-level conditioning and a nod to strategic shot-making give it enduring appeal. It’s a course where intermediate players can enjoy a true test of skills without feeling overwhelmed, while low handicappers will find ample opportunities to challenge their short game and course management. Members appreciate the balance of competitive quality and welcoming pace, making this a staple within the region’s private golf offerings.

When planning a visit, expect well-maintained greens year-round and seasonal updates communicated through the club. The layout encourages strategic thinking combined with moments of open driving and delicate approach shots, providing a rewarding experience in every round.

Booked online for 18 and they didn’t tell us they were working on the back 9 until we got there so only the front 9 was available. Greens were incredibly sandy, fairways were full of weeds and one had a fallen tree lying across it. Fairways and tee boxes were full of rocks in the ground, some bunkers were half asphalt. Very cheap but would highly recommend just going somewhere else and spending a little more

Not worth it in my opinion. The grass is cut but not taken care of and there is no discernible difference between fairways or roughs. The course is in rough shape with huge patches of dead grass. Tee boxes are poorly maintained and the course layout is confusing, we had to ask for directions multiple times due to bad signage.

No restaurant or bar, snacks available. Very low price ..so great value for money. Some very difficult but fun holes. My only issue was that 9th and 17th are side by side over a valley where the cart path runs between/across them.. Be extremely careful as you are in danger after teeing off. If everyone is sensible you'll be fine. With that in mind I would definitely return here

The workers are very rude and hostile, i paid for 18 holes and had 10 minutes left before the cart was due, they didn't let us play even though we only played 12 holes. Denise was a very very rude employee, avoid her at all costs.

I’m torn with how I feel about this course because the price is fantastic and the layout is great. It’s big with open/wide fairways, you don’t have to worry about hitting homes or the roads, there are plenty of fun holes; whoever designed this course knew what they were doing. But, whoever is taking care of the course doesn’t. My biggest gripe with the course is the grass. There’s no distinction between fairways, rough, fringe, OB, and on some holes even the green!! The grass is just one height across the board which makes it incredibly frustrating when you hit a great shot down the fairway and lands in 1.5” high grass. On top of that, large portions of the grass were infected with weeds that clearly haven’t been taken care of by the landscapers (see pictures below). But the icing on the cake was management deciding to dye the greens midway through the day when the course is packed. I was speechless when I was half way through hole 2 and looked on the green to see them spraying the greens mid-day. Any golfer knows you shouldn’t touch that stuff when it’s fresh, aside from the fact that there are chemicals in it, you’ll get green dye all over your hands and ball. So nobody (with a brain) was putting that day. Grass aside, there was some other questionable up-keeping around the course. Such as bunkers that became as hard as a rock and fallen trees on tee boxes. I really wanted to like this course as it’s near my house, a great price, and a good design. But after the disastrous round that I had, I won’t be returning and will happily pay a few extra dollars at other courses.
