Plainfield Country Club

Edison, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

Plainfield Country Club offers a refined private-golf experience on a classic 18-hole parkland course marked by mature trees, strategic bunkering, and thoughtful design. Located just outside Edison, it balances precision and challenge with accessible tees and well-maintained practice amenities.

Course Overview

Located just outside Edison in Central New Jersey, Plainfield Country Club offers a distinguished private golf experience on a classic 18-hole championship course. The layout presents a traditional parkland style characterized by tree-lined fairways, strategic bunkering, and well-manicured greens that demand thoughtful shot-making. The course’s mature hardwoods frame each hole, providing both visual appeal and natural challenges that affect wind patterns and strategy throughout the round.

Players first encounter a welcoming yet precise opening stretch that encourages steady play, while the mid-to-late holes introduce more intricate challenges with elevation changes and multi-tiered putting surfaces. The course’s par and yardage provide a balanced test, appealing to accomplished players who value precision as much as power. While this private course favors low to mid-handicap golfers seeking a true championship layout, its varied tee placements allow for accessibility to a wider range of skill levels.

Plainfield’s setting combines the calm of suburban greenery with pockets of traditionally designed hazards that feel both intentional and natural. Water hazards come into play thoughtfully, adding an element of risk without overwhelming the overall rhythm of the course. The undulating greens support a variety of pin placements, keeping putting both engaging and challenging.

The clubhouse serves as a refined gathering point, offering members a comfortable venue to unwind, enjoy fine dining, and socialize after play. Amenities extend beyond the course with well-maintained practice facilities, including a driving range and short game area that support skill development throughout the seasons.

Walking the course is encouraged, and its layout is accommodating without steep climbs, making it manageable for players who prefer to fully engage with the landscape. Visitors and members alike will find the combination of strategic design and natural beauty invites thoughtful play, with every hole presenting its own rhythm and demands. Whether sharpening competitive skills or enjoying a relaxed round among friends, Plainfield Country Club delivers a golf experience grounded in tradition and challenge.

Course Highlights

The course features carefully positioned bunkers guarding greens, several water hazards that reward accurate long shots, and mature hardwood trees that influence wind and sightlines. Its par-4 12th hole is known for a sweeping dogleg right with a narrow fairway framed by towering oaks, demanding precision off the tee and a delicate approach shot.

My wife and I had our wedding here and could only say great things. All aspects were seamless and perfect. Emily, the on site coordinator, is organized beyond belief, responsive, and most importantly kind. The remaining staff was on top of everything you could even consider between setting up, serving delicious meals (would recommend trying the filet and crab cakes), and providing overall tremendous service. If you want to make memories that will last a lifetime, GCSR is the place to go. Thank you all for the unforgettable night!

We were thrilled with our USNA Graduation Party at The Golf Club at South River. The food, drinks, and ambiance were beyond our expectations. I was extremely grateful to Kerry Petz for her personal expertise on every detail. She guided me through best menu options, drink recommendations, party flow set-up ideas, music recommendations and everything in between. The event staff made the night extremely personal and stress free from set-up to tear down. Gina ran the show, ensuring food and drinks were flowing. She treated us all like family & everyone had a wonderful time. A perfect night with the beautiful club setting in the background from dusk into the evening. Loved watching the night unfold from starting the celebration with pics on the bridge & the beautiful fountain in the background to the pavilion lighting up as the sun set. Our out of town guests could not stop talking about how beautiful the setting was. Hosting at The Golf Club at South River was more personal and frankly more delicious than we would have experienced hosting at a local restaurant, hotel or entertainment venue. Amenities like ample parking, clean facility grounds/restrooms and personal on site staff assistance were things I hadn't considered in planning but were such an added plus. Thank you for making this special achievement such a memorable night for us all!

The restaurant has only gone down hill. Needs better food and the “renovation” looks terrible. Why even call this a private club. More like a McDonalds

My wife and I joined the Golf Club at South River two months ago. For senior men (55+) there are two very active groups that play Tuesday thru Friday mornings. This group is very welcoming. For my wife, a beginner, there is a great Thursday evening nine and dine group, all handicaps welcome. For couples, once a month they have a Friday night couples event, which we’ve thoroughly enjoyed. The course is challenging and there is not a green with a flat straight put. So a good course for all abilities.

My husband and I got married at The Golf Club at South River in December 2022 and couldn't have chosen a more perfect venue/team to work with. We fell in love with this beautiful venue and all it has to offer from the first time we went to visit. They offer an amazing wedding package, and was the only place we found that included everything we needed for a VERY affordable price. Everything from the wedding space, food, drinks, to on-site coordination. We booked this venue in September of 2021 and in between our wedding planning we lost our original wedding coordinator as she left the golf club. We were then introduced to the new on-site coordinator, Kerry, and her partner Gina who made the whole transition seamless and re-assured us that they had everything under control (which they totally did)! Over the last few months of wedding planning, the most crucial time, the communication between Kerry, Gina and I was top tier as they were there to answer the million questions I had and were very open to all of our requests and suggestions. They are the dream team! Fast forward to our wedding day, which was an absolute dream. The team at the golf club made our vision come to life and we couldnt be more happy with how the day turned out. They did a phenomenal job setting up, helping our vendors as they arrived, keeping everything and everyone on track, the food and service were amazing and we received MANY compliments that it was "the best wedding food we've ever had". If anything went wrong, we didn't know about it and as the bride and groom, we couldn't have asked for more. Their team truly allowed us to enjoy our day and made it as stress free as possible. Overall, we are more than pleased with our decision to have our wedding at this beautiful venue and couldn't thank Kerry and her team more for everything they did to make our wedding the most memorable day ever! Thank you so much! The Haggers
