Brick Township, New Jersey, USACentral New Jersey

Ocean County Golf Course at Forge Pond in Brick Township offers an approachable 18-hole layout blending par-3s and par-4s across gentle terrain with subtle water hazards. Ideal for golfers focusing on precision and short game strategy, this public course combines solid maintenance with practical challenges suited to players at all levels.

Course Overview

Ocean County Golf Course at Forge Pond offers an approachable yet engaging 18-hole layout that challenges players across a variety of skill levels. Situated in Brick Township, New Jersey, this public course unfolds across terrain shaped by gentle elevation changes and water features, lending it a distinctive character uncommon to many local options. Its blend of par-3 and par-4 holes rewards precision with irons and wedges, making it ideal for golfers who prefer a thoughtful, strategy-driven round over sheer power.

The course leans toward an executive style, with many holes short enough to encourage aggressive shot-making while still demanding accuracy. Well-maintained fairways and greens offer reliable footing and surface consistency, though some tees reflect natural wear, especially where sand and dirt have replaced worn grass. Players who appreciate quick-paced rounds will find this course manageable in time, but occasional delays have been noted during peak periods, so planning a weekday morning round is advisable.

Surrounding the course, pockets of water come into play, particularly near the middle nine, requiring attention to select proper clubs and carry distances. Bunkers are strategically placed to test approach shots and green-side control without overwhelming less experienced players. The greens roll true and provide subtle breaks, emphasizing the need for sound putting techniques. While the layout lacks dramatic elevation or sprawling vistas, the intimate setting fosters focus and an enjoyable experience for both newcomers and more practiced golfers.

As a public facility, Ocean County Golf Course welcomes walk-ins, though reservations guarantee smoother access. The course encourages walking, which enhances appreciation for its terrain nuances and allows players to maintain comfortable rhythm. The clubhouse offers basic amenities, with staff known for friendliness, making the overall visit welcoming.

For local golfers seeking a well-kept, affordable venue to sharpen their short game and enjoy a full 18 holes, Forge Pond combines practical playability with quiet challenge. The course’s accessible design and steady conditions make it a popular choice for regional players aiming to improve while avoiding the crowds of larger facilities. Those who favor accuracy over distance will find plenty to like here, especially when pacing their rounds thoughtfully and embracing the course’s inviting, low-pressure environment.

Course Highlights

A compact executive-style layout combining predominantly par-3 and short par-4 holes, water hazards influencing mid-course strategy, and well-contoured greens that emphasize putting precision. The course strikes a balance between challenge and accessibility, with reliable turf conditions that make it attractive for local players focusing on iron and wedge game refinement.

Rude and condescending starter, you know who you are. Other staff also not so friendly. They make you feel like you don’t deserve to play their course. God forbid you walk on… starter just automatically says he can’t get you on until after 5 pm without a tee time even though theres plenty of times available. “Well let you play this time” they said 😂. Smd. You better have a tee time or feel their wrath!!

Decently priced executive course, decent for locals. Most tee boxes are dirt or sand, which is to be expected. However, they do not care about pace of play here. You should be able to complete a full round in 2 hours 30 minutes, yet they will let people play for nearly 4 hours which is just ridiculous. All it takes is one ranger to check pace but they do not care. You will sit 10-15 minutes in your cart waiting for people to clear the hole every time. It’s a shame because they have put in work to make the greens and fairways nice for a public course.

Excellent short course. Your driver is not very important on this course, and the greens are pretty straight forward. It’s mostly a bunch of very playable par 3 and 4s. So If you enjoy the iron and wedge part of golf I’d recommend this course for you.

An excellently maintained course with a fair amount of challenging holes to play. The pace was smooth for a weekday morning and all of the staff was friendly. I only played the front nine but plan on returning soon to play the full 18. For the price and availability I highly recommend this course. Especially if you’re local to get the country card for a reduced rate.

This is a small course of mostly par threes and some par fours. I think the back nine is a lot more interesting than the front. The fairways for the most part are in decent shape but the tee boxes are a little worse for wear. It is a very reasonable place to play golf price wise and I have always had solid experiences with the staff. I have been in several times and enjoyed each time I went. I would highly recommend.
