Set in gently rolling terrain, it combines approachable playability with subtle strategic demands, and features a welcoming clubhouse with a lively tavern for post-round enjoyment.
Course Overview
Lochmere Country Club stands as a distinguished 18-hole facility located in Tilton, New Hampshire, offering a challenging yet approachable test of golf through a parkland layout carved into gently rolling terrain. While the clubhouse presents a modest profile, the course itself reveals a thoughtful design that demands both strategic shotmaking and patience, particularly across its complex green complexes. The lush fairways are complemented by mature tree lines that frame holes thoughtfully, guiding players on a route that gradually increases in difficulty as the round progresses.
The front nine serves as an inviting introduction, with generous fairways that encourage relaxed play and set a steady pace. As you move onto the back nine, the course tightens, requiring precisely placed irons and deft touch around the greens. Notably, the greens at Lochmere are known for their speed and subtle undulations, rewarding players who can read the subtle ridges and breaks, while punishing those who underestimate their contours. These nuances provide the highlight for golfers seeking to test their putting skills.
The clubhouse functions as a social hub offering a warm atmosphere and a well-stocked tavern with a wide draft selection for post-round relaxation. The maintenance standards reflect a genuine care for course conditions, with tee boxes and fairways consistently presented in excellent shape throughout the seasons. Rangers contribute by maintaining a steady pace of play, ensuring rounds move smoothly without sacrificing the enjoyment of the game.
Lochmere caters mainly to members but welcomes guests accompanied by hosts, making it ideal for serious golf enthusiasts looking for a quietly competitive experience within Central New Hampshire’s golf landscape. Walking is encouraged, with a manageable layout and terrain that suits most players comfortable in moderate walking conditions. Those planning visits should bring attention to signage, as directional aids between holes can sometimes be sparse, and practicing patience on the back nine will make for the most rewarding round.
This course hits a balance between accessibility and challenge, offering a golf experience that sharpens all facets of the player’s game without overwhelming. It is a practical destination for golfers who appreciate well-crafted parkland scenery combined with testing putting surfaces.
Course Highlights
The course features a classic parkland design with broad, tree-lined fairways opening into subtly undulating greens that demand a refined putting touch. Wow! What a great course! Don't let the club house fool you, this is a great course to play! Tee boxes and fairways were in excellent shape. Greens are quick and run true but have lots of ridges, mounds, bumps, etc. Thankfully I played with a member who was able to tell me areas to avoid. Pace was nice and quick with rangers keeping a friendly eye on everyone. Just a couple drawbacks. There were two short par fours that were an iron off the tee and then a wedge. Not my favorite type of holes. There definitely needs more signage between a few holes. I would have been lost with out my partner.

Such an amazing course. The front nine warms you up to the insane back nine - good luck putting the back nine! It was so difficult! But worth it. Get out here and play. Aug 2021

Decent course for the price. It's no Owl's Nest. The ranger was very unwelcoming . Got told to pick up the pace after 5 holes and about an hour of time. We caught up to the group in front two holes later. When we got up to #13 there was a group of 8 playing the hole. After we finished #13 we were told to keep up with our pace. Laughable and we won't be back.
