Course Overview

Passaconaway Country Club, located just off Midway Avenue in Litchfield, New Hampshire, is a public 18-hole golf course that balances challenge and playability within a comfortably natural setting. The course offers a traditional parkland layout, weaving through rolling terrain punctuated by mature trees and natural wetland areas that contribute subtle strategic elements without overwhelming the golfer.

Stretching over 6,400 yards with a par of 72, Passaconaway presents a solid test of golf for a wide range of players. The front nine introduces an inviting mix of straight-forward holes, while the back nine grows progressively longer and demands more precision and course management. Bunkers and water hazards come into play thoughtfully, compelling players to consider both risk and reward as they navigate the course. Conditions are generally well maintained year-round, though some holes adjacent to swampy sections may challenge footing and ball visibility at times.

Players of all skill levels will find opportunities to enjoy a steady pace of play, thanks to the course’s layout and attentive staff. Walkers can comfortably navigate the terrain, though shoes with good traction are recommended given occasional damp ground, especially during spring and fall seasons. Those seeking to sharpen their short game will appreciate the upkeep of the greens and strategic positioning of bunkers that guard the putting surfaces.

Beyond the fairways, the clubhouse offers a welcoming space for members and guests to relax after rounds, with a modest selection of amenities supporting a well-rounded golf experience. Passaconaway’s team is known for attentive service, helping to keep rounds moving smoothly and providing helpful local insights.

While the course has its quirks, such as occasional hidden ball spots and natural vegetation growth around rough edges, it remains a favored destination in southern New Hampshire for its value, condition, and inviting playability. Whether you’re an experienced player looking for a solid challenge or a beginner eager to improve, Passaconaway Country Club promises a rewarding and engaging round in a serene setting just a short drive from central New Hampshire’s main hubs.

I've been going here off and on for years, and I'm constantly amazed by the quality of the course and the condition that it's in. It's not perfect, there are some wet, swampy areas on some holes and they can be mildly annoying, but not terrible. For a public course, you really can't beat it for the price, condition and service. The staff is always great. For the most part, they do a great job keeping play moving, though there have been times when you'd wish there was a ranger around, but what course doesn't have that problem? ;-) It's can be a little long on the back as a few other reviews have noted, but overall, it's an aesthetically pleasing, well-designed, moderately challenging course that is tough to beat in the area in terms of price, value, overall condition and service.

I hate the course. 4th and 5th holes are unplayable for me. You can't see where your ball lands. Then the ranger tells to pick up your pace of play. They could use a for caddy there, but I don't think they could see where the ball landed. Hole 3, I hit my 3rd shot down the middle left side, I couldn't find it in the rough. Folks are great. Course in good shape. Greens recently punched. Cashless is blah. Charging a 6 bucks breakfast sandwich is stupid. Rather, leave ten bucks for it on the bar. A lot of potential , but I think the growth of the vegetation has taken over the course.
